scheduled scan not working

This issue has been going on for a very long time for many people, in 2017 they were apparently working very hard to find a fix for the bug!! Obviously not hard enough as it's now 2018, and I have had this problem ages despite uninstalling and reinstalling a few times! AVG used to be good!
