VPN stops internet access

Since the VPN upgrade this morning, turning on the VPN tells me there is no internet access and suggests there is a problem with the fire wall. Everything worked fine before the update! I can get internet access without using the VPN, but that sort of negates the idea of the VPN! All the antivirus stuff is AVG so nothing should clash.Help please

Hi John,

We're glad to look into this & help you.
As we're uncertain about the exact message that you receive, would you be so kind to share us the screenshot of it for better clarity?

Your Internet access is blocked
Firewall or antivirus software may have blocked the connection.
Try:
Checking the connection
Checking firewall and antivirus configurations
Running Windows Network Diagnostics
ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED

Hi John,

Let us try changing the Google DNS and check the status with the internet connection when AVG Secure VPN is turned ON.
1. Press Windows and R key simultaneously to open Run command.
2. In Run window, type as "ncpa.cpl" without the quotes and click on OK button.
3. In Network connections window, please right-click the connection you use, and select Properties.
4. Double-click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IPv4) item on the Networking tab.
5. Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window. Click OK.
6) Select Use the following DNS server addresses.
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4.
7) Click on Apply and Ok.
Please keep us updated on the progress.

Thanks for your help, but I'm sorry to say that doesn't work. I can't understand why an AVG update should upset a system which has worked perfectly well. Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

We sorry to hear to this.

Please turn off the firewall in your AVG program and check for the issue again.

If the issue gets resolved, then please uninstall the AVG Secure VPN and reinstall it again.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have turned off the firewall in AVG as you suggest, turned on the  VPN and exactly the same thing happens - the bottom LH corner of the screen sticks on "resolving host" and the same message as before
No internet
Try:
Checking the network cables, modem, and router
Reconnecting to Wi-Fi
Running Windows Network Diagnostics

I can access the internet fine without the VPN (hence this note), so the connection itself is no problem. I can't understand what has caused this as the machine has run perfectly well without any issues for several years. Any more ideas would be welcome. Thanks

Thanks  for your prompt response. I tried different servers - New York, Paris etc right at the start, but haven't tried different browsers so I will have a go using Fire Fox. I am away for a couple of days, but if Fire Fox doesn't work, I'll take you up on your offer. Thank-you.

I had the same problem, Since I install the UPDATE for the firewall AVG, It's impossible for me to surf on the net with AVG VPN ON.....
Just close tha AVG firewall on your Iternet security AVG software.
The firewall will be control by your window program instead your AVG software.
Now everythings is OK.User-added image

I have the same problem. I'm sorry I purchased the program. I have to disable VPN to use the internet.
AVG is really useless as I observe. I had to work for a week to prune out all it's weaknesses and I'm not sure I succeeded. The hackers kick off my ransomware protection and behavior shield and just continue their business. I have the AVG UI visible all the time to constantly monitor what the heck is going on. Relearning all about the computers... NOT MY JOB ! It's the job of AVG.

Hi Nilufer,

This isn't the experience we want you to have.
Please write back to us in your own post to further investigate on this & help you with the appropriate support channel to sort this in a timely manner.
This will also helps us to keep the conversation simple & fasten the resolution process.
While writing back, please clarify whether Ransomware protection & Behavior shield gets disabled automatically. Also, include the version of AVG that is installed on your computer (Open AVG - Menu - About)
Thank you for your understanding in advance!

Hi, I am having the same issue. Everything was working fine with AVG until I did a system reset on my windows 10 laptop and reinstalled AVG. Everyrhing was going well after the anti-virus installed but as soon as the download for the VPN started my computer got laggy and then had a BSOD with error ATTEMPTED_EXECUTE_OF_NOEXECUTE_MEMORY. Ever since then my pc runs slow and internet connection is impossible with VPN active. I have tried disabling firewall, using Chrome, IE, and AVG Secure Browser, I tried the DNS server change, I tried changing VPN server locations. I am lost and regretting paying money for this, please help.
