zookaware

AVG has suddenly decided to flag the PC maintenance software Zookaware as a threat and has disabled the program.  There does not appear to be a way of recovering from this false positive. Has anyone had the same problem?

Hi Ian,

I can understand how upset you must be.

I suggest you add the Application to exceptions and also Submit the App for Whitelisting. Here is an article to add it to exceptions: How to make exclusions from all scans and shields.

Please submit App here: Whitelisting Program Application

Hello,

I'm Carl Haugen and I own ZookaWare. We've submitted our software for whitelisting, and while Avast the company who owns AVG, whitelisted us today, AVG has not yet and is still detecting our software for the past week.

While I respect AVG, they recently started using a third party service to review software and add them to AVG's antivirus database, which is the only reason why AVG is detecting our software. This company is called Appesteem and their business model is to get legitimate companies sofware detected by antivirus in order to charge them a fee to get their software removed from the antivirus companies database.

After Appesteem gets your software detected by antivirus companies, they try to sell companies a "premium services" package comprised of a $2500 setup fee, $1,000/mo plus $300/hr for consulting fees to get antivirus companies to stop detecting your software, after they are the ones who got you detected to begin with.

The owner of Appesteem admitted all his "rules" posted on his site are his personal opinion and not laws or regulations of any type. In fact, I found 2 reviews posted on Google reviews for his Appesteem company that were fake, so he doesn't mind violating real laws to market his own company.

Appesteem doesn't even have a company Facebook or Twitter page, which doesn't add to their credibility.

Appesteem's attack upon our company was solely due to us using the word "registry error" in our software. Two months ago, CCleaner, owned by Avast the company that owns AVG, also used "registry error", however they are supporting Appesteem by adding software on his hitlist to antivirus companies databases, so CCleaner did not get on Appesteem's hitlist like we did.

We removed the word "registry error" from our software and Appesteem confirmed we not only meet their requirements but we are a model of our industry and they are going to use our software as the industry standard for what other companies should follow. But still AVG detects our software as they told us today that Appesteem still has us on their list and Appesteem refuses all requests to contact any antivirus company as thats only included in their "premium services" package. We don't pay extortions, so will not pay Appesteem.

My hope is that AVG stops using this mafia style organization as its only hurting their image and brand, like in this example.

Hello, Carl.

I appreciate sharing your review and feedback here. It seems that you have updated the program but using the same digital certificate which is marked as Deceptor. I would request you to create a new digital certificate or the next program version will be detected again.

It seems from the foregoing that whatever I do (and I have _no_ idea how to create a digital certificate for Zookaware and why should I?) that your system will continue flagging Zookaware as you are not adding it to your whitelist.
Is there any chance of this AVG fault being fixed?

Hi Ian, the previous message was for Carl Haugen, owner of ZookaWare.

Hi Avinash,

I got an email a few hours ago from AVG that said you added our software to your whitelist, which is awesome!

We are currently awaiting a new code signing certificate. We have to unfortunately purchase a completely new certificate which requires verification, time, plus money. We will release a new software version with the new certificate as soon as we get it from Digicert.

I hope someone at AVG reviews my comments and reconsiders your affiliation with Appesteem. We haven't had issues with antivirus detecting our software until they came along and got us detected by 10 different antivirus companies overnight. And its really suspicious when their sole method of making money is to offer a "premium service" to companies who are being detected by the same anti virus companies they got us detected by to begin with.

If AVG can't fix this soon....I won't be renewing!

Digicert issued our new code signing certificate, we installed it and released our new software with the new code signing certificate. Unfortunately AVG is still detecting our software even though I was told we were whitelisted by AVG and Avast

I contacted your support again about this

Both AVG and Avast stopped detecting our software today. This issue is resolved.

If any of our customers read this please go to https://zookaware.com and download our latest version posted on our site and it will work great along with AVG

Thanks for taking care of this!
