Windows update

I have a problem with the latest Windows update, KB4074598 witch states this:

Contact your antivirus manufacturer to verify that their software is compatible and that they have set the following REGKEY on the computer:

Key="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"Subkey="SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat"

Value Name="cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc"

Type="REG_DWORD”

Data="0x00000000”

Is there a fix for this?

Thank you.

Hello Denis,

I understand your concern.

Please check if AVG program is up to date in your computer. If not, follow the below steps to update AVG.

* Double-click AVG icon on your destop.
* Go to Menu → Settings → Update.
* Click the Update button in the Program section.
* When the update is complete, click OK. If asked to restart your PC, click Restart Now to reboot immediately.

If you face any difficulties, please send me the screenshot http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot of the error message. We will check the same and assist you further.

Karthikeyan,

It is not an error per say, update installs and at restart it goes to 46% before blocking and then reverts and will not install, but the process takes a few hours. My AVG is up to date.

Please send me the screenshot http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot of the AVG window where it it stuck at 48%, we will check the same and assist you further.

Karthikeyan

It is the Windows update that is stuck at 46% after install and restart, not the AVG. Writing this from my laptop as my PC is reverting changes since windows update fails and my PC is not available at this time.

Denis,
Sorry for the trouble. Please open AVG Internet Security -> Menu -> About -> let us know the version you have installed. Have you tried to perform windows update by disable AVG Temporarily? We are here if you need further help.

Ranjani,

Unfortunately, Windows is still reverting on my PC, I do not have access to the AVG version, but I did do the latest update on it before trying the update with AVG disabled, that is the install that is currently reverting. I do have the paid version of AVG.

Denis, I am sorry to hear that the issue persists.

If you are able to cancel this update, please cancel the same and then check if you are able to login to Windows without any error.

Hello Denis,
I'm glad to hear that the issue has been resolved. Yes, I can see that you have very latest version of AVG Internet Security installed on your computer which is 18.1. Feel free to contact us again if you need any further assistance.
Best regards,
Alok.

Alok,

The problem still remains as the Windows update causing the problem will need to be reinstalled at one point.

Hello Denis,
I understand that you're able to update Windows only with disabled AVG Internet Security. The issue might be because of old/previous AVG Internet Security traces. In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version. Please follow the instruction ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product ) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool. After the computer reboots, please follow the instruction to download/install/activate AVG Internet Security. After the AVG Internet Security installation: Please change AVG Firewall network profile to private (open AVG Internet Security > menu > settings > components > firewall > customize > network profile > change all the network public to private), please go to Firewall customize settings again > scroll down > click on system rules > enable all the system rules if it's not configured, please click OK and check if you can access all the Windows updates with enabled AVG Internet Security.
Best regards,
Alok.

Alok,

I'm unable to remove AVG Internet security, with either the remover tool or with control panel/programs and features/uninstall. It may be due to the corrupted files from the AVG Free program.

Can you help?

Thank you for the information.
To be sure, did you use AVG Clear tool for removal?
Denis ComtoisDenis Comtois
Yes, I used both and both were ineffective, there seems to be files missing. The remover cannont find the installed version, I click "run anyway" it runs for an hour and nothing happens, the Clear tool is run in safe mode but stops, looking for a file and freezes.

Thank you for the information.
I request you to run AVG removal tool again and click on "Run Anyway".
Wait until it shows "Restart" option.
If you get it after few minutes, please click on it and then proceed to run AVG Clear tool.
Do not boot into safe mode, instead click on "No" on the first prompt that you receive when you run the clear tool.
Keep me informed about the status.

Balasubramanian,

My PC is now dead, all attemps to fix the issue have failed. Windows is now also corrupted, and I do not have the installation files for Windows 7 Enterprise anymore, so until I decide my next move, I will refrain from contacting you.

Thank you for your assistance,

Denis Comtois

P.S. Can I install my paid version of AVG on my laptop?
KarthikeyanKarthikeyan (Foundever)
Yes, AVG Internet Security Unlimited you have purchased can be installed on unlimited devices.

You can use this link http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-Protection to install the product and activate it by entering your AVG MyAccount credentials.
