AVG Mail Shield has been interfering with Thunderbird retrieving my mail

AVG 18.5.3059 is not playing nice with Thunderbird.  2 problems.  I keep getting  "Unable to connect to your IMAP server.  Exceeded maximum amount of connections" error message. Also, when I click "reply", it won't send the email.  Says something about in incorrect subject.  Don't remember that error message.   I disabled the Email shield in AVG and T Bird worked fine again.  So I found a help file for AVG and,  I followed the instructions.  I exported the "MailShield.der" from AVG and imported it into Thunderbird but, first I had to delete the certificate that was already there of that same  name and it imported the new file fine and, Thunderbird worked for a few days.  But today, the same 2 problems are happening again.   I figured I'd try the export and import of "MailShield.der" again but, it wouldn't install saying it was already installed (as it did before) but, unlike the first time I imported it into Thunderbird, it was NOT in the list so I couldn't delete it.  Now I have to disable the email shield in order to get my mail again.  Oh yeah, I also have SSL unchecked.
Thanks for your help

Sure,  Also, I have some more information that may help.  When I installed the current version, I ran AVG Clear first so I could do a fresh install because there was some problem with the program update that AVG did automatically. Sorry, I can't remember what the problem was then.  That was in July of this year and a lot of stuff going on in my life right now so...  Anyhow, I just looked at the install I did in July and it said it was version: 18.5.3931.0.   But, when I go to "About" in AVG software, it says the version installed is 18.5.3059.  Anyhow, just some more information.

It's me again.  I had deleted the emails we wrote back and forth , thinking the issue was somewhat resolved but, I just got the BSOD while retrieving my emails in Thunderbird so, I have to post here rather than email you about it.

This is the information I got from the Blue Screen as it was dumping the physical memory:
AVGSTMXP.SYS
A7037548 base at A7020000
DateStamp 5B23B8FE

I turned off the mail shield once again until I know what's going on.
Thanks for your help,
Annette
