Why to stop all the annoying AVG pop-ups and advertisements?
I have never seen such an annoying anti-virus product since Norton years ago with it's pop-ups. I have all the pop-up settings set to 0 seconds, and still I receive annoying slide-in pop-ups in the corners from AVG products. My AVG VPN subscription ran out, and several times every day, it keeps reminding me to renew. If I wanted to renew, I would open the software. I don't want to renew right now. So it looks like instead of keeping the software installed, I have to uninstall it to stop the damn reminders! This is not how you do business. AVG has become an annoying piece of junk riddled with advertisements pushing people to buy each different plugin of your software!
The VPN should not keep reminding me day after day if i want to purchase. That is damn annoying. So I uninstalled it. People shouldn't have to uninstall it to get rid of ad's like that. There should be an option that says "No, I don't want to renew". Then never remind the user again, unless they open the VPN software again. Then tell them to renew.
I can not have software like this on my professional workstation bothering me all the times when I am working on projects. I will now have to look elsewhere for other AV product that isn't so annoying. Avast is just as bad since it is now owned by same parent company!
Hello, Myron. We regret for any inconvenience caused. Please note that you may receive a pop up once in a day asking to renew if an AVG program is expired and still installed on your PC. We'd like to take this as your valuable feedback about the pop ups behavior once an AVG program is expired.
To stop receiving ads about other AVG products, please open AVG Internet Security, click Menu > Settings > General > Privacy. Then uncheck "Show offers for other AVG products" and "Show offers for 3rd party products", click OK to save the settings.
I agree. I suspect every time AVG does an update, the privacy settings are rearranged. So no matter what settings you had previously, they are overwritten to start bombarding ads to the user again. For instance, it's just a year since this complaint. I changed my settings so I wouldn't get pop-up ads on my frigging desktop while I'm trying to work, which worked for a couple of months and now they're back again, despite 'Show offers' from AVG and 3rd-party products being unchecked.
It's not a matter of "inconvenience". It's a matter of TRUST. It's a matter of RESPECT for your customers, which AVG is choosing to ignore. If AVG wants more customers, make a reliable product that people can count on, make sure customer support is high quality, and listen to what customers are saying. It's not rocket science to understand that nobody wants pop-up ads... EVER, ANYWHERE! If your sales team says otherwise, reconsider the staff you have on your sales team and go for quality there too.
Now I feel like I have to shop for another antivirus software.
Beth, this is not what we want our customers to experience. We'd like to clarify that AVG will not make changes in settings after an update. Could you reinstall and the configure the settings to verify the status? If this continues to be the same, then there should be an issue. We need to escalate the case to our senior team for analysis. Please be assured that we will do all the necessary steps have this taken care of.
Agree 100% with Beth. Users should not have to go though steps to stop ANNOYING AVG POP-UP RENEWAL ADS or any other UNWANTED pop-ups. SO UNPROFESSIONAL and so solveable. Do not send us steps to 'uinstall', 'reinstall', etc. Beth has the right solution: a "Decline" button on the popups so the user only has to tell you ONCE that they are annoyed and do not want your offers. We understand your frustration. This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have & we're truly sorry for the discomfort this has caused. From your description, we understand that you'd like an option which will disable all the notifications from your AVG program(s). We'd request you to follow the steps available in this article & enable the "Silent mode" in your AVG Antivirus. After enabling silent mode, restart your computer once & check if the pop-ups still persist. Furthermore, we'll certainly consider your valuable feedback regarding the pop-ups & try our best to improve our products & service. You can submit your feedback to our developers team directly from the AVG Antivirus program: AVG Antivirus > Menu > About > Submit feedback/Report a bug. Thank you for understanding in advance!
Thanks for updating the status, Ray. You're most welcome. For further queries or need assistance, feel free to contact us. Have a great day, stay safe online with AVG!
I know it has been a while since anyone posted on this thread however <sarcasm> it is nice to see that the ads and annoying popups are still part of the software. I mean it isn't like I had to pay for the software or anything. </sarcasm> But really, I shouldn't have to put the app into silent mode and disable other settings as well to stop seeing adds. They should either be disabled by default and opt-in or 100% non-existant. Plastering an application with ads, even if for products by the same company, not only annoys the user base but makes the software seem less professional and cheaper (as in lower quality) and more expensive (as in the software cost a decent amount of money but is still also being ad supported). Ads and data harvesting... Not sure if I should have renewed or not... At the least, The products do work. No viruses for me but some respect for us users would be nice.
Hello Bill. My name is Jovana and I'm with AVG Support. Please accept my apologies for the delay. This is certainly not the usual response time, and we're doing our best to improve it.
I entirely understand your point and I appreciate you sharing your experience. Regardless of whether the feedback is negative or positive, we always try to use it to improve our services and support.
I'll certainly share this feedback with the team, so we can continue making improvements in the future.
While in-app ads are a common practice for free versions of many programs on the market, we will do our best to improve them for our free applications in the future.
We value every customer's opinion and strive to improve our products with each future update.
Thank you for your input, and for your patience and understanding.
Before I got AVG, I had ProtonVPN installed. I also had my updates set to always update drivers. Since I've had AVG, they keep puishing their VPN and Driver Update add-ons even though I do not need them. I told them so. I contacted Proto about how AVG was claiming that my system was at risk because the VPN I had was not good enough. The Proton folks were not happy about it and showed me how to prove that AVG was affecting my PC. I've been having router connection and app speed issues today right after I closed down yet another AVG ad. I uninstalled AVG and the issues went away. I have WiseCare Program Uninstaller and they do a real deep dive to ensure all files related to the app you are uninstalling are removed.
Hello Myron, Thank you for reaching AVG Community Support. We regret the inconvenience you had with AVG Pop ups. This is not an experience we expect to deliver to our valuable customers. After all these years and committment to stop the distractions, we still have to put up with the RED "Silent mode is turned on" notification? And there is no option to turn that notification off? All I can do is turn off silent mode and, of course, get all the intrusive offers on again?
I think I've had enough with you guys.
I'll look for another antivirus.
I'm a loyal paying customer, by the way... Just in case this needs clarification.

this does not work, none of AVG "SUGGESTIONS" stop their annoying pop up ads telling me to renew. it is insane how you cannot control your own pop up problem #1 reason to switch service, why would i renew if you cannot provide a simple solution to the problem you created.
