AVG Internet Security blocking access to Gmail

Hi,

I have AVG Internet Security 18.5.3059. I'm running Outlook 2007 and retrieving emails from Gmail via POP3 over SSL.

This used to work fine, but now I get an error 0x800CCC1A: "Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method, Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance."

If I disable SSL scanning by clicking Menu -> Settings -> Components -> Email Shield -> Customise -> SSL Scanning -> and turning off "Scan SSL Connections", it works fine.

Once I enable that again, I get the 0x800CCC1A error.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Hello,

The latest version for AVG Internet security is 18.7. Since, you are using 18.5 version, this issue should have occurred.
Perform the update by clicking on "Menu-->Settings-->Update" from AVG Internet Security interface.
Once you get the latest version, check whether the issue persist.
Thanks.

Hi Balasubramanian,

Upgrading to 18.7 fixed this. Thank you!

However, it's worth calling out that the automatic updates had been failing for several months. That's why I was stuck on 18.5. I believe this was caused by low disk space.

It's quite worrying that there was no popup / alert to warn me the updates weren't installing. Had I not chrecked manually, I would likely never have noticed.

Can I please request that AVG adds error checking / user alerting in situations where automatic updates are failing to apply?

Thanks.

Glad to hear that your issue has been resolved.

We'd like to inform that virus definitions are distributed evenly for all program versions and protection level is the same. The program update seems to have not happened in your case. We'll take this as your valuable feedback and forward it to the concerned people, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.
