Help with this...PID's request by AVG Firewall...

Good day to all in the forums....

Ok, 1st of all great website and I learned some things from you guys / ladies. Keep it up!

Now, my issue is that for some reason I keep on getting PID's request for internet access with no signature (AVG). The number changes to 3 different ones. I always click deny because I have no idea which software is requested this. I been using AVG for sometime and never ran into this issue.

I would like to post a JPG of one of them but I do see a way how.

I used task manager, cmd, power-shell, sysinternals suite, and I can not locate these dumb PID's. I used FULL scan from AVG and Malwarebytes and both software claims my PC is good. Even scanned in safe mode. Any idea what software this can be related to or other tips I can try to do?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It happens random. The only thing that was recently installed was GTA 5 that my nephew put on 07-01-2020. I think it started around 07-05-2020. I find it odd that when I check "remember this answer" then hit deny it will comeback with 2 or 3 different PID's (numbers) requests. Then the next day the same numbers comeback. I do not find in the AVG firewall logs. Where do they go if I check I check "remember this answer" then hit deny?

Not sure if this is related but Chrome started to act odd too this was about 2 weeks ago. Nothing to do with PID's though. Every day I have to I check "remember this answer" then hit allow for Chrome.exe to view video files like YOUTUBE, NBC, yahoo on Chrome. The signature is green and when I hit allow the page reloads and then I can continue to watch. I reinstall Chrome and that hasn’t changed.

FYI, this will be the 1st day the PID's request hasn’t popped up. I think they know I am asking you for help. Now that’s odd. LOL!

Any information would be great.

Thank you.

Having the same issue.  Can't pin it down to any specific application and not showing up in Task Manager so there is some concern.

Same issue here.  I'm a paid AVG business user and am getting the exact same firewall prompt (with the name "PID 11024" today).  Checked the process tree and there isnt anything on that port.

Would be good to know if this is malware
Rakshith RajkumarRakshith Rajkumar (AVG)
Hello Louis,

Let me clarify this for you.
The PID is the Process ID which you can also find it in the Task manager.
This is not a malware, you do not have to worry about that.

To help you in the AVG Business Edition, I request you to reach out the concerned team using the below link :

Hi Rakshith

Yes, normally the PID is a process ID.  In this case it's being shown where you normally display the process or program name, so my concrn is that malware set its name to look like a genberic windows process.  See the screenshot posted by Brandon G above.

There was no process with the process ID 11024 (the "name" displayed by AVG) when I checked, making this even more suspect.

I will reach out to business support, but either there is malware you arent catching or you have a reporting bug

We understand your concern, Louis.

We help you with our additional support.

Please share us the screenshot of the PID screen through separate post.

Keep us posted.

I opened an avast business support ticket, but heres another screenshot/example of what I'm seeing (now with PID 12888.  Note that that is the program name, not a real process ID.

Prior connections appeared to be to akamai, this one is to an azure address.

Just to keep you updated, I opened a ticket with avast business support.  Here is a screenshot of my latest firewall request, this time for a program named "PID 12888".  Again, I see no programs with that PID using process monitorscreenshot

Your patience is much appreciated. Thank you for understanding.

Branddon, Felton, et al

Throuh a lot of trial and error, including reinstalling and repairing AVG twice, I may have found the app doing this.  It looks like (on my system) these correlate with https connection attempts from firefox (refreshing something...maybe ads?)

Not sure how to allow it since firefox is already premitted to make outbound connections and AVG doesnt associate the connection with the correct app (instead saying the app name is "PID XXX", and "XXX" keeps changing).

Good news it it might be a browser vs malware.  Bad news is it may be a bug that AVG needs to fix to get rid of the popups

Good day all sorry for not responding to some of yall with some news.

It’s still very odd. I hope on the next update they fix this. I had uninstalled AVG for now and installed another program as it found some ad's imbedded in my cookies and I am not sure why AVG internet security didn’t catch it. AVG for me has been great for a while till this.  Well Louis Steinberg and Felton Lewis I hope we get an update fast because a lot of users have firewall set as auto-decide and things could be happening in the background that is not good for the user.

Later for now.

Hello everyone.

This is happening to me too.

On my old PC it started happening about two, maybe three months ago. I don't have Firefox only chrome with Adblock and a popup blocker. I contacted the AVG support team and the guy told me to send a screenshot, I did, then he told me to allow the programs with minimum explanation. His answer didn't sit right with me so I didn't. Fast-forward to now and I have a new PC and it still happens.
Does anyone have an answer as to why we don't see the full process name in the firewall popup, or why we don't see the PID itself in the task manager, or why when we block it, it doesn’t show up in the firewall rules?

I tried tracking the processes with the Audit Policy in the security settings of windows, then I used Event Log to try and find the numbered PID but I had trouble adding the PID column. So I had to export the log to .txt then convert the hex numbers to decimal ones. I found one PID linked to dllhost.exe but it’s probably not accurate at all.

I'm a paid Subscriber as well and after doing a clean install of Windows 10 Pro and AVG The first thing I installed apart from Chrome Browser, this is happening to me as well

You can mute the notifications but thats not really a good idea the whole purpose of having AVG installed is to help you not make things more difficult :(

I will be uninstalling this for the time being and I will wait for them to fix this, or I wont be buying the renewal, I have used your product for a number of years now but this is happening pretty much every other minute and its really annoying!

Hello Midhun, AVG,

Although I am on version 20.8.3147 (versie 20.8.5684.604) I still have these "PID" pop-ups..
In which 20.8 version is the issue resolved ...?

thanks in advance.

KarthikeyanKarthikeyan (Foundever)
Raymond, you have the latest built of AVG installed and it was resolved in the previous built of AVG Internet Security. What happens when you click on "Allow" in the pop-up you receive from AVG?

Have you tried repairing AVG Internet Security? If not, you can follow the steps from this link https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Repair-AVG-Antivirus to repair AVG Internet Security/AntiVirus and check if that fix the issue.
