AVG Free Version Ending??

New version 20.5.3130, gives message "The following AVG subscriptions are used on this PC":- AVG Antivirus Free.
Expires July 11th 2020!
Does this mean that the free version is ending?
Dinesh KrishnanDinesh Krishnan (Foundever)
Hi John,

We're glad to clarify this for you.
The latest version(20.5) has included the expiry date in AVG Free Antivirus subscription section too.
You'll be able to use the free version without any validity. Once the existing validity expires, you can reinstall & the subscription will show that it is prolonged to an annual subscription (365 days).
For further queries, feel free to write back to us.

This is confusing!
Why is my version, that I only recently installed, now to be deleted?
It says "Subscription will end on Jluy 11th.
Will I get informed that AVG has been deleted at this time?
Would it be best to reinstall now?
Dinesh KrishnanDinesh Krishnan (Foundever)
Let us attempt to make this process easier, John.
If you've recently installed the program on your computer, then please try logging in to your AVG account through the program to check if it helps.
(Open AVG Free Antivirus - Menu - My subscriptions - Login to AVG My Account).
John ClarkJohn Clark
OK, I've done that. It asks for a "Activation Code".
Where do i find this?
Dinesh KrishnanDinesh Krishnan (Foundever)
It isn't required to enter the activation code, John. You can login to your AVG My Account & then restart the computer once to check the subscription status.

John ClarkJohn Clark
OK, done that.
Still says my Subscription ends on July 11th ie Tomorrow.
Please I need help.
Does this mean my AVG system will not be available after tomorrow?
How do I get AVG Free working after tomorrow?
Midhun AloorMidhun Aloor (Foundever)
We regret the inconvenience caused, John.

We'd like to reassure you that the AVG Antivirus Free will function without validity.
We request you to monitor the situation and please get back to us if your AVG Antivirus Free doesn't work after tomorrow.
Thanks in advance.

OK, but why is it showing under Menu/Subscription "Expires 11th July 1 day left?
Is this a error/problem with new release?

Thank you for providing the screenshot.
By default, a random expiry date would appear for AVG Antivirus free on 'my subscriptions' window that you see.
However, it will not affect the functionality of the free version.
Please log out from 'my subscriptions' window and monitor the status.

Hi @Midhun Aloor,

I think you mean not validated because no validity doesn't mean what you think it does. In this specific scenario, no validity means the app is no longer reliable. Not validated means you don't have to buy an activation code.
AvinashAvinash (Avast)
Hello Tiffany.
Midhun meant to say the AVG free will work even after the expiry date.
If you have any further queries, let us know.

Is this intentionally confusing?  Why have an expiry date at all if it has no meaning and just annoys users with pop-up messages?  Is it to trick people into paying when they don't really need to?

This is confusing that some app tells you it is expiring and then it works after that time too. Anyway, I would purchase the paid version but it's pricy vs other AVs.

In my experience it is thought out, implemented, worded and intentionally left this way to make anyone who reads it pay AVG money. Today is August 16th 2022 and every single one of the 6 user profiles on my computer it given the exact same box about the antivirus free version has been expired. This program is installed for a computer which meas it goes for all users. My the Administrator who can install stuff - if it pleases me to do so - and all the other accounts who cannot and do not have a credits to their name. It is just part of the modern form of software harassment that a computer user endures.

That makes no sense at all, since we're all discussing the same issue here.

Hey John, Annihilannic (and others),

If you're still confused, check out this reddit post on the issue here (https://www.reddit.com/r/antivirus/comments/r9fdcb/avg_antivirus_free_says_it_will_expire_in_x/).

Basically, this is just something AVG does and all you have to do is renew the free version on their website. However, it sounds like if you don't renew, AVG won't continue to update.

Hello all, my name is Jovana and I'm with AVG senior support.

Sorry for the delay. I apologize for any confusion, and I will do my best to clarify and assist.

Since last July's update, our free software has had a 12-month validity period. This is a common practice in the industry, and it was implemented as part of a larger change in our licensing systems.

However, once the Free version expires, there is no need to reinstall the software; instead, simply reactivate it as follows:

Open AVG AntiVirus FREE and go to ☰ Menu ▸ My Subscription.
On the My Subscriptions screen, click Upgrade now next to AVG AntiVirus FREE.
Click Continue with free (or Select) in the AntiVirus FREE column

There is also a dedicated support page with additional screenshots that explains everything in more detail:

Activating AVG AntiVirus FREE on Windows (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=Activate-AVG-AntiVirus-Free#:~:text=Open%20AVG%20AntiVirus%20FREE%20and,in%20the%20AntiVirus%20FREE%20column.)

Nonetheless, I understand how this has affected each of you, and your comments are greatly appreciated. I'll certainly share it with the team so that we can continue to work on future improvements.

Thank you for understanding.
