Legacy Windows XP protection

Hi,
We are having an old pc that is running on Windows XP. We can't change that to a newer version and I see that AVG free version would be still operating on Windows XP. How about lisence, canwe use that free version, as that is the only one available, in a university computer without having issues with licence? Thanks in advance.

Hi Tuomo,

Let us explain this to you.

For your information, Versions 18.8 and lower of the following products: AVG AntiVirus FREE and AVG Internet Security are still supported on Windows XP and Windows Vista.

AVG no longer provides patches or technical support for AVG Internet Security and AVG AntiVirus FREE versions 19.1 and higher installed on the following operating systems:
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic / Home Premium / Business / Enterprise / Ultimate - Service Pack 2, 32 / 64-bit
Microsoft Windows XP Home / Professional / Media Center Edition - Service Pack 3, 32-bit.
Update your operating system to Windows 7 or newer to benefit from enhanced features and higher detection rates in AVG Internet Security and AVG AntiVirus FREE versions 19.1 and higher.

Hi,

Thanks for the clarification. The change of the OS is not an option as the research devices are not working on it.

Basically we would need a protection against USB memory intrusion, as that is the main channel the pc is tranferring data outside. So  based on your answer 18.8 would work on that. As the PC is not connected to internet does AVG Internet Security provide any additional security for USB stick intrusion, than AVG AntiVirus FREE version?

Also we have to be able to update device offline via downloadable files, is that possible on AVG Internet Security, if that is our choice?

Hello Tuomo,

If you want to keep updating your AVG program, you need to connect the PC with Internet and try to update it. We do not have option to download the update file separately.

If you have install old version of AVG Internet Security in Windows XP, it will scan the device and let you know if there is any threats or issues. But, we recommend user to have updated version to find all kind recent threats too. Thank you.
