Win32/Heri (Windows Xp user here)

I turned on my Windows xp sp2 this morning after returning home from a vacation and I got a message from AVG saying that they blocked several threats on my computer that is called Win32/Heri which they classify as a virus that has infected googleupdate.exe in my local settings apllication data folder. I did a brief google search on this virus and it appears that on your support page that was a reoccuring error on older AVG software where this virus warning would pop up when it wasn't really there. So I'm trying to figure out what to do, do I have a virus (which is unlikely due to being gone for the week.) or is this a error of some kind? if it's the latter then how do I fix this error or should I simply remove AVG from this computer?

I tried to use the avgclear.exe and it didn't work. got an error message saying entry point not found.

"the procedure entry point getlogicalprocessorinformation could not be located in dynamic link library kernal32.dll"

Carl WoodCarl Wood
oh and now the avg software on my computer is flagging avgclear.exe as being infected with win32/Heri. So I think that's a sure since this software is malfunctioning. but with avgclear not working how do I remove my anti virus?

Hello Carl,

Thank you for writing back to us. Since you have installed older version, you are receiving that error. Can you please try to remove AVG Anti-virus manually from Control Panel? Keep us updated.
Carl WoodCarl Wood

No avg programs showed up under add or remove programs in the control panel following the use of that avg removal tool I found on that other site.

However when trying to install a newer version of avg antivirus this morning I got this error message.

"Unable to locate component" "this application failed to start because windowscodecs, dll was not found. re-installing the application may fix this problem."

We're sorry to hear that you're facing this issue while installing the AVG AntiVirus on your XP computer.
Just to inform you, only the older version of AVG AntiVirus FREE (Version 18.8) is supported on Windows XP computers, it continues to protect Windows XP owners with regular virus definition updates. However, we no longer provide program updates, new features, bug fixes, or support for Windows XP. Therefore, we strongly recommend all XP owners to upgrade to the latest version of Windows. We're sorry for the confusion before.
In regards to the installation issue, we request you to run the AVG remover tool, manually delete the avg traces from below path, install the offline installer and check the status.
Note : AVG AntiVirus FREE can be downloaded and installed using the offline installer using the below link, but to ensure the latest virus definition, the internet is mandatory to download and update the latest virus definition.  To know more about it, please refer to this article.

Could you let us know if you used the following link to download the set up file of AVG Antivirus (old version)?
