Hello Morgane,
We're sorry to hear that you're facing this issue with the Email client, we regret the inconvenience caused.
We will certainly look into it and help you.
To understand the issue better please clarify the below information.
May I know exactly what happens when you access the email client with AVG? Are you facing any trouble while sending/receiving email?
Do you get any error message/ AVG notification? If yes, please share the screenshot of it.
If needed, please find a quick guide on how to take a screenshot here.
Meanwhile, Please ensure that the program update of the AVG AntiVirus and Virus Definition are up to date, uninstall if any other conflicting antivirus programs are installed, repair the AVG AntiVirus and check the status. Keep us posted.
Thank yo9u.

Hello,

I can't even send an email, the Vivaldi's mail client can't connect or get disconnected whenever AVG mail agent is active.

Here are a bunch of the logs of the mail client :

  • IMAP connection encountered an error! Error: Socket closed unexpectedly!
  • Could not open socket: TLS handshake failed. Reason: net::ERR_SOCKET_NOT_CONNECTED
  • Could not open socket: TLS handshake failed. Reason: net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
  • Could not open socket: TLS handshake failed. Reason: net::ERR_SOCKET_NOT_CONNECTED

If I turn off avg mail agent, everything will work fine.

My AVG is up to date, I reinstalled it. I do not use any other antivirus or antispyware.

Thank you.

We appreciate your effort taken to resolve this matter and thank you for providing the necessary information.
I request you to configure the Email client ports according to your service provided and check the status.
Troubleshooting your email scanning protection in AVG AntiVirus

A) Check all settings in AVG and also in email client. Open the AVG Antivirus user interface and go to "Menu" - "Settings"

2. Click the "Search" icon in the top-right corner

3. Type geek:area into the text box that appears, and select AVG Geek from the search results

4. Scroll down and find the Email Shiled section:

5. Edit the port numbers according to your email service provider or mail server configuration

Port numbers on the left relate to unencrypted connections and port numbers on the right relate to encrypted connections. Most email providers use encrypted connections.

The predefined port numbers are the port numbers used by the most common email providers, such as Gmail and AOL. If you do not know the port numbers that your mail service uses, contact your email provider or network administrator, or refer to the settings section of your email client.

B) Please export the Mail Shield certificate:

1. Open the AVG user interface and click Menu > Settings.

2. Click on "Search", type: geek:area and open Geek area settings.

3. Roll down to email shield part

4. Click on "Perform" and export email certificate.

5. Select a location to save the exported Mail Shield certificate (for example, your Windows Desktop) and click Save.

6. When a message appears that "AVG Mail Shield has been successfully exported" click OK.

After that import it to email client

C) Change DNS and disable IPv6 protocol

- Make sure that you are logged in as Administrator on your Windows profile.

- Click on Start and open "Control panel"

- Open "Network and Sharing Center"

- On the right panel, select "Change adapter settings"

- Right click on the active network adapter (active network connection) and then select "Properties"

- Uncheck the box for "Internet Protocol Version (TCP/IPv6)"

- Click on "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and go to "Properties"

- Choose "Use the following DNS server addresses" at the bottom of Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) Properties window. In the spaces provided, enter 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4.

- Click "OK"

D) Flush DNS

- Simply type cmd and the Windows search bar will appear on the right hand side with search results.

- Right click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator

- Type in the command ipconfig /flushdns

E) Verify situation

Hello,

Ports are the good ones : 993 imap, 465 smtp.
No way to import mail shield, it does not have such option
I will not be doing tricky things such as disable ipv6 nor changing my dns.
I resolved the issue by turning off mail shield.

If you wish to fix this bug, you may download Vivaldi's browser and take a look at its built-in mail client.

Thanks anyway.

Appreciate your efforts, Morgane.
Please navigate to geek area in AVG program as mentioned in this article to disable 'Scan SSL connections' below Email shield & let us know if it helps.

Hello,

It seems that this last trick worked.
Everything is fine now.

Thank you.

Thank you for updating the status, Morgane.
Scan SSL connections (enabled by default): Enables scanning of emails sent or received using SSL/TLS encrypted connection. If disabled, only emails sent or received via unsecured connections are scanned.
To further check and resolve this issue with enabling the Scan SSL connection, we've sent you an email that offered free additional support to investigate and resolve this issue further.
Please check for the email and revert to us.
Thanks for your understanding in advance.
