What is icarus.exe?

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 (x64)
AVG AntiVirus Free 23.6.8271

What is icarus.exe?  Why do I have three instances (only two different versions) of icarus.exe?

Can I safely delete the older version 23.4.5728.0?

One instance of version 23..5.5828.0 is in the folder
"C:\Program Files\Common Files\AVG\Icarus\avg-av-vps\temp\asw-ef95e02d-43c5-4f35-9d06-c7a2d982c9c1".  Note the path includes "temp".  Can I safely delete this instance?

I used AVGclean to remove my current (old) AVG AntiVirus Free 23.6.8271.  I then used a third-party application to purge remaining registry entries for AVG.  When I used the stand-alone installer (not stub installer) to install AVG AntiVirus Free 23.8.8416.0, I found two instances of icarus.exe and one instance of icarus_ui.exe, all three with version 23.5.5828.0.  All thre are at least 7 Mb.

No, I do not get any kind of error message; so there is no screenshot.

Your reply does not address my questions.  What is icarus.exe?  Can I delete redundant (or all) instances?

Hello David,
Thank you for the reply.
I apologize on behalf of AVG. Not to worry, let me clarify you.
The file "icarus.exe" is actually a legit part of AVG. Specifically, it's a program that's checking for AVG updates. Icarus.exe is indeed our product, and is associated to your installed AVG product(s). When AVG product is launched, icarus.exe checks for any available update of the product launched.
Each AVG program has its icarus files. Icarus version is completely different from the AVG program version.Let us know if you have other AVG programs apart from AVG Antivirus Free.To completely remove AVG make use our uninstaller tool. Ensure that all the existing versions of AVG is removed , after removing the AVG program using our uninstaller tool, please restart and then check for leftover traces. If you find any leftover do remove it and then check the installation of AVG. I hope you find it helpful.
If you furthrer require help,, please get back to us.
Thank you for your understanding.
