AVG Clear

Recently I tried to uninstall AVG antivirus from a laptop running Win XP. I believe the version was AVG Free 2011 or similar. Uninstalling from the control panel has failed. Stopping the AVG service(s) and uninstalling also failed. I proceeded to download the AVG Clear application to fully remove the application and its components and ran into a bit of a problem. When I attempt to run the application on the XP machine, I get an error: The AVG Clear application is Not a Valid Win32 Application. Given I downloaded the most up to date AVG Clear application, I’m not overly surprised it wont run on an old platform. Is there a fix...either a AVG clear app version that was compiled years ago and would work on an old Win32 install or other work around?  Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hi Chris,

We will help you with the uninstallation.
Have you tried deleting the AVG folders from the C driver and then uninstalling it from the control panel?
And what error do you get while uninstalling the application from the Control Panel?

This is the error window that pops up when I attempt to uninstall the software.  Safe Mode has no effect.I always uninstall from the control panel.  I would never delete the folders from the C: drive without doing a complete uninstall first.  There are registry edits that deleting the folders would never touch and that sounds like a very bad idea in general.  Thanks for your help.

Thank you for sharing the screenshot, Chris.

In this case, we request you to try using our 'Remover' tool to uninstall the older version of AVG Antivirus.
You can use this link to download our Remover tool.
Thanks in advance. Keep us updated.

The remover tool seems have worked on the old 2011 install.  I have not dug into the registry or subfolders, but the service no longer runs. Thank You.

So, I'm left with a question that makes me wonder.  I attempted to use the AVGClear tool and it failed.  I had to come to the AVG Forum here to get the AVG Remover that appears to have worked.  If these tools are similar in function, why doesn't the support page list both of them as options and WHEN to use them?  How is anyone going to know which tool is the right tool?  Is Clear the newest version of Remover?  If so, I'd suggest that the support site make note of this for future challenges that folks like me might encounter.
Thanks Again
Chris

Chris, we understand your concern.

Let me clarify this for you.

We used the AVG Remover tool to uninstall old versions of the AVG programs before 2017. However, after the update we did switch the tool to AVG Clear.

Currently, AVG Clear tool will remove the AVG Internet Security and AVG Remover will uninstall the AVG Tune-up. Both the tools have different functions.

We will consider this as a feedback and update it in the Forums.

Thank you for understanding.
