MS Outlook 2010 no send/receive after AVG update Aug 31 2022

MS Outlook 2010 fails to send/receive after AVG updated on Aug 31 2022 AEST. (paid version)
If I disable AVG Outlook works.
Prior to AVG update Outlook worked fine.

Come on AVG, how come you break stuff with your upgrades?

I also have the same problem with outlook 365. Ports are correct and I changed location to Perth and this worked for awhile but now the problem is back. Also the phone number for phone support rings and then is immediatley engaged, it would be good to talk to someone directly about this.

Sorry this is for AVG Secure VPN, it stops Outlook 365.

Hello Sreenu Yadavalli

Answers to your questions:

AVG AntiVirus 22.8.3250 (build 22.8.7500.439)
WIndows 7 64bit
MS Outlook 2010

The link to the support article does not work: It says "Sorry, we're currently hard at work
improving our Support Center."

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you, Jeff.
Please try to access the article from a different browser and then check if it helps.
Thank you and keep us informed.

Read instructions as per link to edit the email port settings and cahnged these.

IMAP ports 993,587,465
IMAP secure ports 993,587,465

Reboot and try email, still does not work.

Still need to turn off Email Sheild to get emails to work.

Also logging in to certain websites are being blocked by AVG which worked OK before this damned update. I needed to turn Web Sheild off to be able to log in to those sites.

This AVG update is causing me a lot of grief and it is not my fault. I did not change anything to cause this, AVG changed stuff and broke my system.

Received your email.
Yeah, not giving anyone remote control of my computer.

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused to you, Jeff.
Please follow the below steps and then check if it helps:
Open AVG Internet Security, and navigate to -> Menu -> Settings -> Basic Protection -> Email Shield -> Untick the "Scan outbound emails (SMTP)" checkbox.
Thank you and keep us informed.

Menu -> Settings -> Basic Protection -> Email Shield -> Untick the "Scan outbound emails (SMTP)"

Was already unticked.

I don't see why this was suggested as the problem that the Outlook connection to email servers is being blocked by AVG.

Hello Jeff,

We are really sorry for the inconvenience caused. We will check and help you to resolve it. We have already escalated this send/receive email issue to developers team. They are working on the process of fixing it. It will be fixed in the upcoming updates. Until then, you can disable email component and start using Outlook program. We really appreciate your patience.
Jeff ChandlerJeff Chandler

This is a paid version I have and for now it does not do what I paid for.
So your developers need to fix this.
Can I expect the time it is not working to be added onto the end of my subscription? I paid for 3 years.

Is there someway I can roll back to the previous version so that I have full function of AVG again?

Web Sheild is also blocking lots of stuff including a normal internet search and log in of some web sites.
So I need to turn off Web Sheild to be able to perform work.

So most of AVG I paid for is not working as advertised.

Hello Jeff,

Thank you for writing back to us. This is not an expected behaviour of AVG program which blockes the Internet. Also, we do not have option to go back to older version of AVG program. Let us try to reinstall AVG Internet Security once using AVG Clear tool and check it.

Refer the below link to reinstall AVG Internet Security using clear tool :

Uninstalling AVG Internet Security using clear tool
Installing AVG Internet Security
Activating AVG Internet Security

Please try the above steps and let us know the status. We look forward for your response.
Jeff ChandlerJeff Chandler

Thank you Veeramani
Uninstalled as per link and via safe mode as recommended.
Reinstall AVG security and actived.

Seems the internet blocking problem has been fixed.
But the email problem remains and I need to have Email Sheild turned off to enable email function.

So what now?

Lathika RavindraLathika Ravindra (Avast)
Thank you for writing us back, Jeff.
We are glad that your AVG Internet Security issue has been resolved.
Regarding your email shield concern we've sent you an email with further details. Please check your inbox/spam folders to find the email and use it to get back to us.
Thank you and keep us updated.
Jeff ChandlerJeff Chandler

I received the email and no, I am not giving AVG remote control of my PC.
The internet blocking problem has returned and email problem remains.
Pointless having AVG installed when I need to have most of AVG services turned off to be able to use my pc.
I don't have time to mess around with this anymore.
So I unstalled AVG and installed Bitdefender, guess what? everything works fine.

We're sorry to know that, Jeff.
If you reconsider, please reinstall AVG & let us know to further investigate on this.

Hi, I'm having the same issue as Jeff and it is only since the last update. Your developers need to fix this issue ASAP. Software upgrades should not disrupt the users installed programmes. Upgrades should also be thouroughly tested prior to implementing them. Not everybody is running the latest operating systems or office programmes. I have been using AVG almost since inception without issue but this problem is letting the company down. Not Happy.

Hello Steven,
We'd like to clarify this for you.
Please write back to us in a separate private message so that we can check and assist you accordingly.
Thank you in advance!
Jeff ChandlerJeff Chandler

Hi Steven
Perhaps save yourself time and pain and just uninstall AVG and change to Bitdefender like I did.

AVG support was unable to solve the issue and on Sept 2 2002 stated:

"We have already escalated this send/receive email issue to developers team. They are working on the process of fixing it. It will be fixed in the upcoming updates."

So they admit they broke it and it needs fixing.

Lathika RavindraLathika Ravindra (Avast)
Hello Jeff,
We apologize for the trouble caused.
As we said we are aware of this issue and its related to scanning of outgoing emails.
As a workaround you can disable the scanning.
We are assuring that we will release a fix as soon as possible.
We've sent you an email, kindly check and revert us.
Thank you for understanding.
