how to check if dowload is safe using my AVG antivirus?

I want to know how to check if my download is safe using my avg internet security?

Hello Joan, 

We are glad to clarify your request. If user have installed AVG Anti-virus, it will have real time protection. So, in case if user downloads any untrusted file AVG program will detect and notify it. Also, user scan initiate the scan for downloads using AVG Anti-virus and check the status.
