Extremley long scan times using Files and Folders scan

I'm getting wildly erratic scan times for both Deep Scan and Files and Folders scans using AVG Free; between 2hrs-10hrs scanning the same drives with virtually the same size (appx. 900Gb-1.07Tb total between C: and D; drives). Nothing changed on my machine between the scans.

Any/all advice/tips gratefully accepted!

Hello Bork,
Thank you for contacting AVG Community Support.
I’m sorry to hear about the inconsistent scan times you're experiencing. I understand how concerning this can be.
Please note that scan duration can vary depending on the amount of data being scanned, especially with large drives like yours (900GB-1TB). However, you can customize the scan type to reduce the time by following the instructions
  • To create a custom scan that runs according to your specifications:
  • Open AVG AntiVirus and go to Run other scans ▸ Scheduled scans.
  • Click Create a new scan.
  • Define the scan parameters and settings:
  • Scan name: Type a name for your scan into the text box.
  • Scan type: Click the drop-down menu and select the type of scan you want.
  • Frequency: Click the drop-down menu and define how often your scan runs.
If you need further assistance, feel free to let us know.

I'm interested in the discrepancies between scan times on drives of exactly the same size using identical scanning types (see my 1st post). I'm a KIS orphan, and am used to scans of 1-1.5hrs for drives that totaled 1.67TB. I guess I'm slowly going thru the phases of grief about that, and resigning myself to all-nighters when I scan my paltry 800Gb-1.01Tb using AVG; or some other AV.

Thanks for the resplonse Rahees, much appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to write back to us, Bork.
AVG AntiVirus Free comes with several predefined scans as well as the option to create your own custom scans. Generally, running a scan does not noticeably affect system performance. it is depending upon the type and size of files.
If certain application components and features are not working properly in AVG Internet Security or AVG AntiVirus FREE like scanning, we recommend you repair your installation using the AVG Setup window.
Refer the following article to repair AVG: Repairing AVG AntiVirus (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=repair-avg-antivirus&q=repiar&supportType=home)

Thanks for the reply, Abdul. Question: when I repair the AVG installation, will I lose my history/other data currently associated with the program?

Thanks again,
