I have tried from the newest version to as far back as "version 2014_4172 dmg." 7 versions altogether
and I always get the message Need Mac OS 10.8.0 or newer.
Is there a version of AVG antivirus still available that would work on a mac with 10.6.8 ?

Please click on the following link (http://avgclick.me/AVGtechnical) and fill out your details, select as Mac OS then the name of AVG Program that you installed in your system and in description please completely explain about your issue and finally click on Email option. The AVG team will reply back to you via email with a resolution.

But when I click on that link and fill out the details I do not have the option of "email option"
All I get is a button for a live chat??? andwhen I click on it, it just keeps on loading and loading and nobody ever comes on.
How do I get the email option or how can I send an email directly to get help?

We sincerely apologize for the technical difficulties that you are experiencing. Please be informed that AVG Antivirus for Mac currently supports OSX systems 10.8 (Mountain Lion) or later. Since you have an older version, I request you upgrade to an higher version.

Since my macbook pro cannot bee upgraded beyond snow leopard 10.6.8 I will have to investigate
other options for an antivirus software
