Installed Protection PRO but AVG2014 persists

Installed Protection Pro on a computer running XP; two android phones were already protected. After considerable fussing I d/l'ed Zen which completed the installation. It's screen says ProtectionPRO is 'protected', Performance is "not tuned up", Privacy etc is "partially protected", Web Tuneup is "not installed".

The XP system icons include the old AVG icon, clicking it brings up the old AVG Internet Security window which shows "Computer", "Web browsing" and "Identity" as protected, "Emails" and "Firewall" as not installed. (AVG2014 had recently expired; that warning is now gone.)

Shouldn't AVG2014 have disappeared during the new install? Is it providing features the new product doesn't include?

FYI I found that installing the Protection PRO product time consuming and frustrating. Opening "my account" from the old AVG2014 product did not show an easy path to success. Clicking 'download' in the middle of the page did something, with no obvious result, and navigating to a subsequent page where Zen was mentioned was not intuitive.

Hello Susan,

AVG Zen is a multisupport interface and Web tune component in Zen is a browser search engine. If you want you can install it in your default browser. Click on the web tuneup component and you will see the installation link. Also please have a look at this link to know about privacy in Zen: http://avgread.me/1L5t2C7.

Feel free to get back to us for any further assistance.

Thank you.

Hello Susan.
Please note that you should have uninstalled AVG 2014 before installing AVG Protection Pro. Please go to control panel and uninstall AVG 2014 now. If you encounter any issue with it, I would request you to run AVG remover tool based on your OS (32-bit or 64-bit) to completely remove AVG and then re install. To determine whether your OS is a 32-bit or 64-bit, please click on this link. http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/827218 .

To download the remover tool, please click on this link: http://www.avg.com/utilities . Once the tool is run, your PC will automatically reboots. After the restart, please check if a folder with name AVG Remover is created under C:\ and remove it.

Once you remove AVG 2014, please open AVG Zen and click on Protection to install the latest version of AVG Internet security. Please, feel free to let me know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.

I've used AVG products as my preferred anti-virus tool for a very long time, but suddenly I've come to realize that I'm not qualified to remain a customer. Installing this "Protection" product has been far too dramatic.

As I first mentioned it took some effort for me to find and follow AVG's instructions to install the Zen tool. Invoking it seemed to install the Protection (environment? what is it?) but it left my AVG 2014 in place. Why didn't it take care of that for me?

I followed your kind instructions to manually remove AVG 2014 - Add/Remove Programs seemed to work fine, so I rebooted and started Zen. The thing that's frustrating me now is that when I click the Protection icon I get a window that says "Install AVG Protection now..." and has a button that says "Get it FREE".

Having paid for a retail-boxed product, why would I want a FREE one?

I seriously am going to spend half an hour this evening reading reviews of competitive products.

Hello Susan,

We are sorry for the misunderstanding. You have installed AVG Zen and activated it with Myaccount(email address and password) so your subscription is activated now. If you click on the components of Zen like protection, performance etc., you will get the option as "get it free". It is not a free product. It is the name of the option to get that program that you paid for.

Feel free to get back to us for any further assistance.

Thank you.
