being bombarded with suspect virus e mails

During past fortnight I have been getting numerous e mails addressed to me from e mail addresses I do not recognise like vindenkanaal.eu or  hyperfee.com or farara.somalter, com etc.
with headings like :-
Thank you Tesco
Congratulations you are a winner
Thank you Aldi
Chris b read yout message before it gets deleted
Congatulations a new message is waiting for you to view

etc.
All these E Mails have top of text link they want me to click on to read it and I very strongly suspect if I did click on the link I could get a virus or my compiuer taken control of.
I have not as yet clicked on any so have no way of klnowing if my AVG Anti-virus would prevent me being infected or identify it as a threat or not? do you have any info on this and any advice as to how I can stop this sustained attempts to confuse me into opening one of them by mistake. .
I thought of forwarding one to AVG but am woried if I did it might expose my laptop to getting infected. Is there any way I can stop these E Mails or other advice.

Hello David.
We are sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused. Could you please let us know whether you use any email client like Outlook or you login to your email account in a web browser like Google chrome or Firefox to check your email? Thank you.

Thanks yours. My computer has Mozilla and internert Explorer browsers but I normally send and receive my E Mails via Windows Mail for VistaI. I can also get e mails by logging on to talktalk website but   only normally do that if there is a problem with windows mail (which currently ok) or if I am awasy from home using another computer such as an internet cafe. This morning of the 17 e mails that  have come through on windows mail to my tiscali.co.uk e mail address 8 have been from recognised OK e mail addresses and 9 more of the suspect ones like  I mentioned in my question and have deleted all these without clicking on link. I have done several AVG scans and several trackers found and secured by system but no reports f any trojans or viruses as yet.

Hello David.
Thank you for writing back to us. I'm grateful for the information. We would like to inform you that AVG does not provide any protection for web based email (when you use a web browser) because the emails are not physically downloaded onto your PC. In case of a email client like Windows mail or Outlook, AVG will scan your email address and alert you if any malicious content is found. If you would like to block a sender or a domain from sending emails to you, please open AVG, go to Options->Advanced settings. In the settings page, expand Anti spam under email protection where you can add an email address or domain (like @Gmail.com) to blacklist. Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.
