Can't install AVG (free) v 2016

I have received several AVG pop-ups in recent weeks advising me that AVG needs to be updated (I think it means upgraded). I have gone ahead as requested and been shown small windows showing "Downloading installation components" followed by "Preparing your AVG installation".  A graphic then appears with something like "Welcome to AVG Protection" written on it, but nothing else happens. I have downloded AVG v2016 separately but that won't install either. I haven't received any error messages. The installation process simply seems to stop.

My system: Windows 7 (64 bit) with Windows firewall. I have full access to the internet and no problems that I am aware of. AVG v 2015 appears to be  working as it should and there doesn't appear to be any difficulty in downloading the latest signatures.

If possible, I would like to avoid going down the uninstall AVG v 2015 route as, in view of the above experiences, that could leave me with no antivirus.
Has anyone else had this particular problem?

Hello John.
Thank you for contacting us. Could you please have a look at this article http://avgread.me/1IaSytS and check if it is the same pop up you are receiving? Thank you.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, that seems to be the one. I start the install and files appear to be downloaded but everything then comes to a halt. The download only lasts about 2 minutes and I don't have a fast internet connection. Also, the graphic which appears on the screen appears to be only a quarter of a picture rather than a full picture. But the same happens both with the version that is downloaded directy from AVG and another version which I later  downloaded from a website - I think it was Filehippo.

Hello John.
The campaign actually guides you to install AVG Protection trial version with AVG Zen included. If you are interested in it, please go ahead and install it. If not, please just ignore the pop up. Thank you.

Just a final note, I received no quidance regarding the installation of AVG trial version. The process simply froze.

I have this same exact problem.  I was prompted, as above.  I tried to update, and I got the "one quarter image."  A window opened with the AVG logo and “AVG”.  Also: “Welcom to AVG Protection” and “Whoever you are, whatever your device, we’ve got you covered.”  There is a picture in the lower left corner with a girl and a dog.  The girl is wearing a green shirt.  There is a partial picture of a woman in yellow holding a pad of some sort, but the entir picture is not shown.  It is as if only the upper left quarter of the intended welcome screen is shown.  Unfortunatly, there are no Windows controls for me to expand this window so I can see the entire thing.  I get the impression that there might be a “Install” or “I accept” button somewhere that is not visible, but I am unable to click on it.  (I also have Windows 7.)

This happened when I tried to update using the pop up.  Since I could never update using the pop up link, the pop up kept popping up.  I ignored it for a while, but it was annoying.  It would pop up when I was typing, and become the primary window.  So, I uninstalled AVG Free, and downloaded a new install executable. The new install executable results in the same problem:  the quarter window which goes no further.

I tried to click the chat link above, but after entering my information, I just get a "Loading" Message.  (I'm using Firefox, with Adblock and Noscript, but I've allowed everything at avg.com.)

Well, it is kind of hard for us to identify the exact issue that you face with the information you have provided. It would be helpful if you could send us a screenshot of the issue that you face for better understanding.
Thank you.

AVG, what is it so hard to understand? Annoying pop-ups every day. Clicking on it leads nowhere, as it freezes every time - stops with incomplete/cut window. I had to uninstall v.2015 - to stop annoying pop-ups.  Downloading free v.2016 from AVG website results in the same frozen window. Trial version or not, with or without Zen - it simply doesn't install. And the best that tech support can come up with, is to ignore pop-ups? Oh my...

Here is a picture of the one quarter install window:

That is the entire install window.  There is no button to press.  I cannot enlarge the window.  Nothing happens.  That entire image just stays on my screen until I decide to give up on installing AVG.

I just tried installing AVG again.  I right clicked on "AVG_Protection_Free_698.exe" and ran it as administrator.  The first image I saw was the below.  After that, the above image (with the girl and dog, etc.) appeared...at which time, the AVG installation appeared to freeze/hang.

Hello Ned.
Kindly follow the below steps to resolve AVG UI resolution issue.

1. Right click on an empty area of your desktop and choose Personalize.
2. Click on the Display link at the bottom left corner .
3. To Select a DPI Size . Choose a size that you desire. Here are three choices.
4. Smaller - 100% = 96 DPI(Pixels/Dots Per Inch)
5. Medium - 125% = 120 DPI (Pixels/Dots Per Inch)
6. Larger - 150% = 144 DPI (Pixels/Dots Per Inch.
7. Choose the smaller one that is 100%
8. Click on the Apply button.
9. Click on the Log off now button.
Thank you.

Thank you, Avinash.  That worked.  (I couldn't see the "Continue" button before that change.  The change in DPI allowed me to see and press that button.  The installation proceeded after that.)

You guys need to fix this resolution problem.  I successfully installed the updated AVG.  I now have the "Slow computer?" popup on my screen.  It says, "Just click below to automatically intal..."  Yeah, it is cut off there.  I can't close the window.  There is no button to "click below."  See the image below.  That is all I can see.  The bottom and right side are cut off.  If I have to change my resolution to get to the button, I actually have to logoff (Windows requires that).  It is staying on top of my browser even as I type this.  I'm guessing I will have to terminate the AVG process to remove this popup.

I tried to terminate the AVG process.  It is not clearly indicated, but I assumed the popup was the AVG process using the least amount of memory.  Apparently I don't have access privelges to terminate the process.  Can you suggest a way to remove the popup window without haveing to close all my windows and logging out of Windows 7?

Hi Ned,

We have already prepared some fixes and they are now being tested and will be part of one of the upcoming updates.

It's not possible to kill some AVG processes because of the AVG's internal protection. In this case I'd try to click into the pop-up and hit ESC key or use the ALT+F4 key combination to close it. If it does not help then please send me screenshot of the pop-up and I'll further discuss it with developers.

Thanks
