I have just started having this issue. I start a scan and the computer shuts down and gives me  ablue screen error. "C000021A Fatal System Error Windoes logon process terminated unexpectantly/The system has been shut down." The computer fuctions as normal after reboot, but if I start a scan with AVG, within a couple of minutes the above occurs, please advise? Thank you

I have the same problem. I have five computers all Dell GX 270s running XP SP3 fully updated. When I run  tje total comptuer scan, the error code of c000021 comes up at the 20% mark and computer stops and I  have to reboot. I tried seperate scans of the comptuer if you go to the menu and select "scan selected folder" if I check all the folders that works too but takes some time to scan. When I select "scan now" it starts scanning but then I get to  the  20% mark and it stops and get blue screen with the error message. I have not installed any new programs. I do have all the xp updates and all the AVG  updates. I have tried system restore and also booted safe mode then using the option of booting from " Last known good configuration" but that does not make  the scan work as it is supose to either. I run scans often and today is the first day I have had this problem. Like I run five computers here and they all kick out at the same time white the same error message. Has to be a problem  with AVG up dated material or something. Hope they notice this issue and hope more people let us know if they are having the problem also.

Hi ... I feel so much better that this is not only my computer.
.
I have Windows XP still.
.
I do a virus scan at least once a week and it was ok last week for me.  I tried scanning for this week and I ran into this problem today.  I start the scan and then I end up with a blue crash screen that says "Stop: coooo21a (fatal system error) the windows logon process terminated unexpected with a status system shutdown (plus it gives a bunch of zeros which I didn't write down.)  On the scan itself it appears to be something in Win32 files.  It reads 5 things found then the bottom pc toolbar changes to my old pc toolbar which then trips the blue screen.
.
The only thing different is that on Aug 22 I noticed a windows popup that wanted to install an update.  I thought it was from AVG so I didn't think anything about it.  After the problem scans I checked the listing for Windows Update [I thought I had it turned off] and it indicated that it installed an update for Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool Update - Aug 2015 - KB890830 at 8:52pm.  This auto installed and I don't know why.  I checked Microsoft's website forum and others noticed it too.
.
I tried using system restore twice but it didn't help.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my AVG 2015 thinking there might be a corrutption but it didn't help.
.
I look forward to any help on insight on this.
Thanks.

One more thing ... I installed Malwarebytes and ran a scan.  It came up with nothing wrong except for one thing that I know about that wouldn't have caused this problem [old toolbar installer].  I didn't run a rootkit scan as of yet with it.

I forgot to mention that I am using AVG 2015 Internet Security.

Randy, Sad Joe and Marguerite,
This is all to similiar to be the fault of all our ps's - the common link here is AVG.
From reading your posts it woud seem that you have done everything that a customer should do and probably a good deal more. What you have written is exactly what I have experienced and continue to experience to the letter. i can add that I have downloaded Adaware and its scan reveals no virus, etc.
Are our pc's at risk during this situation? is the protection, etc that we have paid for in-place or is our pc information comprimised/at risk. The AVG dashboard tells me thatmy protection is complete but is it?

AVG needs to address this situation openly and promptly - I await there reply to this situation.

Comment:  I have gotten the BSOD three times today.  This happens, as stated by others, when I run a scan in AVG 2015 Free.  It gets about 20% of the way and bombs out - BSOD.  I decided to uninstall AVG 2015 FREE, download the latest AVG 2015 FREE and try again.  No success!  Same situation -- scans about 20% and then, "Stop: c00021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Logon Process System progress terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000000   0x00000000)
The system has been shut down."  I am at a loss as to a "fix"  I even tried doing a restore to a few days ago - but, that didn't work either.  I sure hope someone at AVG reads this forum and has a solution!  BTW, I am running Windows XP SP3 on a Dell computer and had no issues until today.  The BSOD is a MAJOR issue!

Problem started yesterday as above. Spent hours trying to sort to no avail. Go into AVG account and it says I don't have an account - which is rubbish. Paid a two year terms.  Is this just a marketing trick to make people pay again?  Suggested I buy.
Has this situation been made Public yet? Gone viral?

Would add to my last comment - watching the wholes Computer scan getting to about 20% I noticed two threats so I paused the Computer scan. Pretty sure it then went up to four threats and crashed immediately despite being paused.  Running on XP SP3 .

I run on Windows XP and I've been having problems with my computer since the last AVG update. I figured maybe it was detecting something wrong that Malwarebytes and Spybot couldn't find. Whenever I scanned with AVG is went to the blue screen with Stop: C000021a Fatal System Error Windows Logon Process System Process Terminated Unexpectedly with a Status of 0x0000000 The System has been Shut Down.

I uninstalled AVG and tried Avast to see if it could clear up whatever virus was messing with AVG, but Avast came back clean. I then tried Avira and it said there were no malicious elements detected. So my computer must be fine and the problem is with AVG. I'm currently running the AVGSysInfo and will send a copy of this message in the comments section. I hope AVG fixes the issue soon and are not thinking of ditching XP like Microsoft, I've always preferred this program to the others.

Same problem here. All seems to have kicked off in the last 24 hrs. Started for me last night. Windows XP SP3. Scan gets to 18%, rapidly racks up 9 detections before desktop icons and start bar all highlight as if selected, then machine shuts down and re-boots itself. No blue screen error messages though. I've ordered a new PC but will need to know if there's anything maliscious on the old one before transferring files over. Will run the sysinfo tool and hope for the best! In the mean time, I'll keep watching this space foe updates.

We are having the same problem.  It started on two pc's yesterday morning at the same time.  both blue screen in the morning shortly after they are turned on and logged in.  I am assuming it crashes during the morning scan.

I removed avg and the problem went away.  I'm guessing avg did an update that is not compatible with the latest version of XP or Microsoft released an XP security update that is not compatible with AVG.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nothing has changed from yesterday. I still get the error code and blue screen. I dont know why AVG needs to analize somones comptuer, its affecting all of us that use XP anyway, so im sure they have a comptuer there at AVG that runs XP for testing their products, analize that comptuer. This morning it went more crazy than ever, it said I had five threats and then went to the blue screen, icons lit up task bar lights up then it crashes. When I go to "scan spacific files or folders" on the AVG control pannel, and check "everthing under scan spacific files or folders" and scan that way it dosent go to blue screen and works. When I do a "scan comptuer" then it crashes at about 20 % just like everone else. AVG needs to fix this its obvious that it has someting to do with the last updates. I run Dell computers here, not sure if the problem is spacific to Dell or not. It shouldnt be I wont think. Is anyone else running a different brand than Dell that is having this problem with AVG?  I spent all day yesterday trying to figure it out im glad that Randy had already posted the problem. Please AVG get this problem fixed, it is not a problem with out comtpuers. Thank you,
Sad " blue screen" Joe in Minnesota

Mine is an Asus, so the problem wouldn't appear to be specific to Dell. I see lots of dfifferent threads are appearing on this site that seem to relate to the same problem. I would imagine the Tech's at AVG are all over it and a fix will be available soon.

Mine works now he anti virus - Thank you AVG !
