AVG Virus Scan stuck

My free version of AVG Virus Scan is stuck and will not complete.  It has been working fine for several months.  It has been running for over 24 hours now.  It is currently stuck at 1% 353 files scanned and it can not get past Rootkits.  I have tried to Stop the scan by clicking the Stop button, but nothing happens.  Why can't it continue and how do I kill the scan?

The Reports Icon had a moving circle indicating that the scan was running.  Looking at the Reports page (seen below) you can see that it was stuck and could not progress beyond the file indicated.
This page shows where the AVG scan locked up.
I after waiting for 36 hours I found an article that suggested I try to us Microsoft Windows 10 Control Panel Programs and Features Repair option for AVG.  After about 45 minutes the AVG repair indicated that it had failed to repair AVG Virus Scan but it did at least terminate the running scan.  I didn't think to capture the AVG Repair failure screen.
