avg and windows defender win 10

Suddenly windows defender is turned on. I have avg internet security with the firewall enabled. AVG is supposed to close Defender. Why are they both running?

Hello Joel,
We do understand your concern. Windows Defender cannot be turned on with AVG enabled. Please open the AVG program installed in your computer and check if it is showing as protected.
Thank you.

YES, AVG states my computer is protected. I had to manually turn off Windows Defender because it gave an error when doing a system backup. It seemed to happen after the last windows update. Windows 10 is a PITA.

Hello Joel,
Thank you for the information. As we can see the AVG program shows as protected, your computer will be safe and protected by AVG. Please do not worry, this can happen due to an update error and will get resolved automatically. If you still have any issue, you can always contact us.
Thank you.

Joel, Correct!!.. With the advent of Win 8 onwards Windows Defender was re-classified to an AntiVirus prog & consequently, because of conflict, shouldn't be used on a system with AVG.
Windows Defender is a software product that attempts to detect and remove malware. It was first released as a free antispyware program download for Windows XP, shipped with Windows Vista and Windows 7 and made into a full antivirus program replacing Microsoft Security Essentials as part of Windows 8 and later versions.
