AVG Antivirus FREE won't update ("general error")

For a few days now AVG Antivirus FREE has been giving me a "general error" every time it tries to update. I have already tried both the repair tool and uninstalling/reinstalling. Error persists.

I tried running the program, but I receive a system error due to VCRUNTIME140.dll not being installed. The diagnosis seems to complete anyway, but once I fill in the info and send output, I receive another error:
(something like "entry point strcpy_s cannot be found")
and the tool is now stuck on sending/"Working, please, wait"

I think the report was sent succesfully despite the errors.
