Removal Tool won't uninstall AVG

Trying to uninstall AVG 2012 on an old Laptop (Acer Aspire 5750; Windows 7) to install latest version. Control panel uninstall won't work and I have tried to use the AVG removal tool - will start to remove AVG and ask to restart my computer, but every time it restarts no progress is made. Have tried at least 30 times.

Any other methods to uninstall the program? Thanks

Hello J,
We are sorry to know that you are unable to uninstall AVG. In this case, we suggest you to restart your computer in safe mode with networking http://avgclick.me/rebootintosafemode and then run the AVG remover tool and check if that fix this issue.
Thank you.

Hello J,
In this case, we suggest you to manually remove all the AVG files from your computer. Please make sure to remove them from this locations in safe mode:
C:\ Program files(X86)\AVG
C:\Programdata\AVG
C:\Users\Username\Appdata\local\AVG
also C:\Windows\Temp
Thank you

I've removed all the files, but AVG still shows up in uninstall program. When I try to uninstall it says it cannot find it and it may have already been deleted.
Tried using the removal tool which keeps requesting a restart, resulting in no update or uninstallation. Tried downloading AVG free and it will not allow me to because of error code 0xe001f98d.

Hello J P,
We request you to reboot the computer in safe mode http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-reboot-your-computer-into-Safe-Mode and then remove remove AVG folders manually as suggested below. Go to Run window (press windows key and R key simultaneously) and type the following comments to delete the folders.

1. Type “Temp” and press enter, remove all the files.
2. “%temp%” and remove all the files.
3. %appdata% - Remove all the AVG folders.
4. %programdata% - Open the AVG folder and remove the old files.

Please go to c: drive-> program files and delete the AVG files .

Thank you.

Tried all of the above and still cannot remove AVG 2011 x64 even though its nowhere to be seen. Tried every install/uninstall tool and every manual method but keep seeing this when trying to install a firewall.
