Unable to open/uninstall newly installed AVG AntiVirus on Mac OS X 10.12

I need help.

I just installed AVG Anti-Virus for Mac OS X Sierra (10.12). The installed seems successful. However, I could not locate the icon to open the application. I restarted the computer, and I still can't find a way to open the program, and I don't even see it in the Activity Monitor.

I tried re-running the installer, but when I do this, it fails, saying there is already an installed version of AVG present, and that I need to uninstall it before reinstalling it. However, since I can't open the program, there is no way to uninstall it.

Can someone help me to uninstall it?

Hi Paul,

We understand your concern, not to worry we will definitely help you with that. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please goto Finder>Application>Search for any AVG application. Remove the applications available and then reinstall the AVG Anti Virus.

Thank you.

Hello Akash Chanda.

I tried this. I was able to uninstall and then reinstall.

However, the issue is that the program is not opening. I looked into this in other forum posts, and it seems the installer fails to lay down an executable file. So, the program never starts. I went to Finder-> Applications -> Open and nothing happens.

Many people on Mac OS X 10.12 have this same issue. I know you are probably technical support, but can you please forward this issue to your Software Engineers to fix? This is clearly a software bug. Or can you please give me an estimate or defect number under which this will be fixed?

Attached is a screenshot showing it was succesfully installed. But the program does not open. I would rather not you ask me for logs, as this issue has already been reported by others, so you probably already have the logs.

Note that I have tried AVG on Mac OS X 10.11, and it works fine there. Please see if you can look into whether your Software Engineers have opened an internal defect, and whether they are working on this.

Thanks.

Nice. Another canned message to another user with almost the exact same issue as mine. I haven't had a response back for more than a month(?) from them. Good luck Paul.
