Why Can't I Open AVG AntiVirus Free?

I have Windows 7 Home Premium on a desktop pc with 4 GB Ram. Until recently, had no problem opening AVG AntiVirus Free. For the past few days, when I click its shortcut, it doesn't open. It's still on the Control Panel program list. I tried system restore twice, but it failed both times. Re-installed AVG AntiVirus Free twice, but still can't open it. Sent 4 emails yesterday. Each had an AVG AntiVirus Free ad at the bottom. Would like to disable that, but can't open AVG AntiVirus Free. Any clues why?

Hello Customer,
We are sorry to hear that. Could you please run AVG repair and check if you are able to open the AVG program without any issue? Please click on this link avgclick.me/RepairAVG for the steps to run AVG repair.

Thank you. The repair page fixed the shortcut bug. I can now open AVG again. But the latest version adds several things I don't want. Can you help me remove or disable them? Windows 7 Control Panel lists 3 AVG programs:  AVG, AVG Protection and AVG Web TuneUp. My main interest is AVG AntiVirus Free. When I click the shortcut, it loads AVG Zen, which advertises premium products. I'd like to skip that and load only AVG AntiVirus Free (which also has premium ads).

Of the 3 Control Panel programs, is AVG the AntiVirus (alone) or is it AVG Zen? What is AVG Protection? Is that AVG Zen? If AVG Protection is AVG Zen, can I uninstall it so clicking the shortcut loads only AVG? If I need AVG Protection for the AntiVirus, can I still disable AVG Zen?

Is AVG Web TuneUp part of AVG AntiVirus Free? Or is it a premium product? Do I need it for protection from web malware? Or does AVG AntiVirus do that? Chrome lists several warnings when it's added as an extension.

Also, the latest version of AVG puts an ad in every email I send. Even Microsoft didn't do that! Can I disable it? In the AntiVirus Settings, General, I unchecked "Enable AVG email signature," but that didn't stop email ads. I rebooted my pc, but AVG ads are still on all emails. Really annoying! Can I disable them?

Hi,

We understand your concern, we apologize. Due to recent update with our AVG programs, we made this changes and sorry to inform you that it is not possible to install your AVG programs without AVG Zen interface for free and unlimited programs. It helps the user to view or manage all other devices. Thank you for understanding!

AVG Protection is AVG AntiVirus FREE, also, AVG Web TuneUp is a browser add-on that provides you with secure search and is a part of AVG Zen.

You can uncheck this email signature from the AVG Anti Virus FREE Settings and that should fix the issue. Please open the AVG Anti Virus FREE interface and click on "Menu>Settings> General> Uncheck Enabe AVG Email signature".

Thank you!

If you read the last paragraph of my previous reply, you'll see I did what you suggest. I opened the AVG AntiVirus Free Menu, Settings, General, then unchecked "Enable AVG email signature." Even rebooted my pc twice. But the AVG ads are still on all emails!

Windows Live Mail 2012 is my client. Outlook.com is my server. The path is IMAP. When I send emails, both WLM 2012 and Outlook.com save copies. There are no AVG ads on server copies. But all WLM 2012 copies have AVG ads. How is that possible?

For me, this is recent. It started on April 13. Prior to that, none of my emails had AVG ads. It's possible my copy of AVG was defective, since I couldn't open it until today.

For whatever reason, yesterday and today, all WLM 2012 copies have AVG ads. Unchecking "Enable AVG email signature" doesn't stop them. The ads are only on WLM 2012 copies, not on Outlook.com server copies.

Can you explain why? Or how to stop it? The text of the ads changed, from yesterday to today. Yesterday (Thursday, 4-13), they said "Virus-free. www.avg.com". Today (Friday, 4-14), they say, "This email has been checked for viruses by AVG antivirus software. www.avg.com".

The ads are so new, you're still changing text! Please tell me there's a way to disable it.

Screenshots. First, for both days (Thursday, 4-13 and Friday, 4-14), I've had "Enable AVG email signature" UNCHECKED in AVG AntiVirus Free Menu/Settings/General:

Enable AVG email signature UNCHECKED

AVG email signature (ad) on WLM 2012 email copy, (4-13-17):

AVG email signature (ad) on WLM 2012 email copy (4-13-17)

AVG email signature (ad) in WLM 2012 email copy (4-14-17):

AVG email signature (ad) in WLM 2012 email copy (4-14-17)

Note these facts:

1) I've had AVG AntiVirus Free for many years and have never had AVG ads on email copies. The ads started on Thursday (4-13-17) and continue, even though I've UNCHECKED Enable AVG email signatures in AVG AntiVirus Free.

2) All emails composed in WLM 2012. Both sent and received through Outlook.com server using IMAP.

3) The AVG ads are only on WLM 2012 copies (sent & received in Inbox), not on Outlook.com copies

Uninstalling, then reinstalling AVG Free got rid of the AVG ads at the bottom of sent & received email copies. Thank you.

But now I have a new problem! Prior versions of AVG Antivirus Free let me schedule full scans. With the latest version, I don't see anywhere I can do that. Did you get rid of the tool that lets users schedule system scans? If you didn't, where in the latest version is it? I don't see it.
