I have been using my SONOS and AVG Free for some time with Windows 10 and it has suddenly started blocking my SONOS system from connecting.
I have confirmed that it is the firewall by switching it off. SONOS then connects first time. When I turn the firewall back on it is blocked again. There is no Pop Up asking me to allow or block SONOS when I try to connect.
How do I configure the AVG Free firewall to allow SONOS?
Hello Mark, We regret for the inconvenience caused. AVG Antivirus Free doesn't have firewall feature. Please confirm whether you have installed AVG Internet Security trial version. Thank you.
Which TAB (File Path, URL, CyberCapture, Hardened Mode) do I use for SONOS? The problem is that SONOS is attempting to establish a wifi network and AVG won't let it connect. It is not a simple matter of typing in the exe file or website address.
This seems completely unnecessary and was not required when Windows 10 had control of the firewall. A pop up just allowed you to unblock the program.
This expereince is not making me enthusiastic to upgrade to the paid version of AVG
Hello Mark, We apologize for the inconvenience caused. We suggest to add the SONOS folder from the path (C:\Program Files\SONOS or C:\Program Files x86\SONOS) in File paths. If the issue persists, please write back here. Thank you.

I had exactly the same problem. I switched my network from public to private and it seemed to work. Not sure about how this will impact anything else, but it got Sonos working!
Martyn, when you say you switched your "network" from public to private, what exactly did you do and in what platform? I was using McAfee because it was provided with my new Dell, but I prefer AVG. When I switched to AVG at the end of my1 year free use of McAfee, AVG blocked SONOS. I'm not getting the message that AVG is overly concerned about this issue, but for me it is a critical work issue. Thanks.
Thanks Martyn, going from public to private works, allows SONOS to connect. From Internet Security, select Menu, Settings, Components, Firewall, Customize, Network profiles, then next to your listed Network select Private.
Hello everyone, Time to re-open this Question. Even with solutions given above; I can't get it to work. Only when I completely turn off my AVG Firewall it tends to cnnect to my existing SONOS system. I'm doing this from a Windows 10 PC.
Hi Raoul. I'd request to allow the system rules in AVG firewall settings as described in this article to resolve the issue. If you need anything else, do not hesitate to let us know.
We appreciate your efforts, Raul. Let us attempt to modify one more firewall setting to check if it helps. To do so : Open AVG - Menu - Settings - Full protection - Enhanced firewall - Enable 'Internet connection sharing mode' by checking it.
Glad to hear that the issue is resolved. Internet Connection Sharing (ICS), allows all the devices on a local area network (LAN) to share a single internet connection.
May 2020. I upgraded AVG to the paid for security bits. Testing showed it was AVG causing the problem as switching off AVG allowed Sonos to connect.
The solution was
1. Allow Sonos through as an App.
Open AVG. Menu (Top right) > Settings > General > Blocked and allowed apps. Add Sonos.
2. Switch all netwotks in AVG from Public to Private.
I went Hacker Attacks > Enhanced Firewall ... Firewall Options > Network Profiles..., and set all to Private. I may only have needed to do one but I didn't test any further.

Thank you for the information.
Have you installed 2017 version of AVG Internet Security program in your computer?
Thank you.
We regret to hear about the inconvenience caused, please add the application to exceptions lists in AVG by using the below instructions : http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-make-exclusions-from-all-scans-and-shields

I've put everything on "Enabled", however it's still not working, I'm afraid.
To do so : Open AVG - Menu - Settings - Full protection - Enhanced firewall - Enable 'Internet connection sharing mode' by checking it.
Thanks for your reply. This indeed fixed the problem.
But what did I open the firewall up to?
