False "programs out of date message"

I am using the trial version of AVG Internet Security.  This morning I had an AVG popup telling me 6 programs were out of date. I checked the link to show the programs and all 6 programs showed the installed version and the current version were the same.

Phil, Flash Player can also be related to browsers. To play videos through browsers we might need flash player. The feature to check the out of date programs is a part of AVG PC TuneUp product. You can open AVG Anti Virus free product through desktop shortcut or through start menu that has the name "AVG protection". Thank you.

Phil,
We understand your concern, let us know whether you have the option to update those files. The version of certain programs may be same but build version will differs, please make sure about it and proceed with the update.

Following your suggestion I attempted to update the 6  program:
1.  Firefox says it is up to date.
2.  Adobe Reader says there are no updates available.
3.  Foxit Reader updated a file open module.
4.  IrfanView says there are no updates available.
5.  Firefox says the Flash Player plug in for Firefox is up to date.
6.  I have no knowledge of using the other program and can't locate it anywhere on my PC -- Flash Player Active X.

Am I correct to assume that this checking for out of date programs is not part of AVG free?  How do I go back to AVG free or should I just wait for the trial to expire?

Looking around some more I found Flash Player Active X and uninstalled the program.

I have AVG free which recently updated its software to 18.1.3044 about two days ago and I am now getting the same message. I never got this before the software update. There are some programs I refuse to update for my own reasons I will not go into here. There is no way to stop it from coming up. I suspect that it's AVG's latest trick to get users to pay for their PC Tuneup component which I definitely DO NOT WANT. All I want from AVG is the antivirus. I have other software that works just fine for PC maitenance.

Hi Julie,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns.

Many of our users find these offers useful and rely on them. I would also like to inform you that the Performance scan is embedded with the General Scan and is a Report which is given after each step of scan of your computers performance. It is a recommendation from AVG to increase your computers performance. Unfortunately, the Performance scan cannot be disabled or removed.
