Email Using SSL Blocked By New AVG Update

This question was asked several days ago; I partially solved the problem, but have received no additional information from a follow-up question.

After the most recent AVG update, I was unable to receive/send email from Gmail or Comcast, receiving the 0X800CCC1A error ("Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified...").  These accounts worked fine prior to the software update.  This error seems to have been caused by the updated software turning on SSL Scanning; I have disabled this option, and I am now able to access my SSL-connected GMail accounts.  I would, however, like to be able to use SSL without AVG blocking my emails from being sent/received.  Assistance appreciated.
