Hello Ahyan,
I understand that you need assistance to update AVG Free Antivirus. Please follow below step to update it:
Open AVG->Anti virus->Menu->Settings->Update-> Then update Program updates and Virus definition updates in your PC.
Thank you.

Hi,

I have the same problem as Ahyan. I can't update virus definition manually.

I got Antivirus_Free_x64_1818.exe from AVG site and I installed it on an offline computer. I also download the last virus definition file. Then, in AVG, Settings > Update > Virus Definition, I checked the "Manual Updates" option. If I press "Updates" button from the virus definition section, it just tries to connect and the update fails. Previous version of AVG used to have the option: update from a directory. I can't find it in the new interface.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Dan,

I am sorry to hear that you are facing the same issue.
In the 2017 version, when you select "Manual Update" and perform the process it will download the updates only when you click on "Update" from settings.
In 2016 version, we had a option as to download the updates from the directory which is not present in the newer version.

Please perform repair of AVG Antivirus once as mentioned in this article: http://avgread.me/1BVxDSY and check whether the issue with update persists.

Thanks for your answer Balasubramanian. I provided some feedback.
Concerning the article, I can't repair because that process needs a connexion.
I tried to re-install but the problem remains.

Hello Ahyan,

I am sorry to hear that you are unable to run AVG repair and get error. Please follow the below steps and check if that fix the issue:

Go to the Control Panel.
Click Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings.

To change the settings for an Ethernet connection, right-click Local Area Connection > Properties.
To change the settings for a wireless connection, right-click Wireless Network Connection > Properties.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Select the Networking tab. Under This connection uses the following items, select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and then click Properties.
Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window.
Click OK.
Select Use the following DNS server addresses. If there are any IP addresses listed in the Preferred DNS server or Alternate DNS server, write them down for future reference.
Replace those addresses with the IP addresses of the Google DNS servers:

For IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4.

Please restart your computer and check if you are able to run AVG update. If you face any difficulties, feel free to contact us.
