I downloaded the AVG free trial, and at the end of the trial period did not decide to purchase it but rather use the free version. I just updated it however, and now it wont let me do anything. If I try to scan my computer, instead I get a prompt to buy the full version. If I so much as even try to OPEN my FREE AVG antivirus it pops up with "your internet security trial has expired, buy now to get back to your full protection". I wont let me get around or past the prompt. I can literally do nothing on my computer, I can't run a scan or anything. I cannot use my FREE antivirus, unless I pay for an upgrade, and I can't find how to fix it, or get past this screen. If anyone has any advice, or is there just no such thing as the free AVG antivirus anymore? Do they only offer paid now?
I am sorry to hear that. It seems that the trial version did not downgrade to free version of AVG Antivirus. I suggest you to completely remove and reinstall AVG AntiVirus free and check if that fix this issue. Please uninstall AVG Internet Security trial from your computer control panel and install the latest version of AVG Antivirus free from this link: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-AntiVirus-Free. If you face any difficulties after reinstalling AVG AntiVirus free, please let us know and we will assist you further.
So despite me uninstalling and reinstalling with the above provided link, it did not change, I then went to uninstall again and clicked repair instead and now it works! I have no clue why uninstalling and reinstalling did nothing, but a simple repair solved the issue. thanks anyway
Kathleen, I am glad to know that you were able to get the free version after performing repair of AVG. During the installation, by default the installation screen will show you to install "Internet Security" and the option to install "Basic Protection" will be present on the same window. To install the free version, Basic Protection should be clicked. If it is selected as Internet Security then the trial of AVG Internet Security will get installed. If the issue appears again, do let me know.
I request you to try the instructions as mentioned in this article: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-remove-AVG-trial-popup-and-continue-with-free-protection for downgrading trial to free version.
If the issue persists, do let me know.
