Unblock my ability to save in word documents please

Hello, I am very agitated at the moment as I'm having a mess with AVG. It also doesn't seem to want to recognize my account that I have with you so I've had to create this account just in order to get any support. So please forgive me if I sound rather annoyed at the moment. The main problem started when I tried to open a word document. AVG popped up and said that something was trying to gain access to my documents. From the sound of the file name, I figured it was just a false alarm, but to be sure, I blocked it anyway. After all, I can unblock it if it's needed, right? Well, I can't seem to unblock it and now all my documents are permanently "Read Only". Following some advice from a previous post, I temporarily disabled AVG and restarted my computer. Now it works. I'd very much prefer not to have to disable and restart my computer every time I want to write, so please tell me how to unblock an application in your new "Ransomware Protection" thing.

Hello Walter,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please follow below steps to unblock Microsoft word from the blocked list of AVG Ransomware protection:
1. Open the AVG management console and click Internet Security.
2. Go to Menu ▸ Settings ▸ Ransomware Protection.
3. Select the Blocked/Allowed apps tab.
4. Click Block an App or Allow an App, then select Microsoft office word and click Open.
5. The application appears in the relevant list. Click Close to return to the main Ransomware Protection screen.
If the issue persists, please share the screenshot of error you encounter with word file to assist further.
To create a screenshot, please follow this article http://avgread.me/1aZxsAV .
Thank you.

No worries as it is no one's fault but my own. I've calmed down since this mess happened. I tried to follow the steps and I tried it before, but the application does not appear in the list. I tried searching for it but it doesn't find it either. I tried googling the program and apparently the file doesn't really exist in file form or something. I'll include a screenshot now.Unable to save documents as they are in a permanent "read only" state, even though they are not actually checked off as "read only".

Hello Walter,
I apologize for the delay in response. Please remove the "WINWORD.EXE" from the blocked apps list in AVG Ransom ware and add it to allowed apps list.

Hi, I'm having this exact problem. Did some work on Word, tried to save, and AVG pops up with a 'We've just protected your file!' and even if I allow it, it still doesn't let me save the word document. If I want to disable AVG and restart my computer, I lose all my work. I couldn't find 'AVG management console' anywhere, couldn't find the 'ransomware protection' settings or anything.User-added image

Hello Pera,
I'm sorry to hear about the error. In this case, I request you to open AVG Free Antivirus > menu > settings > components > look for ransomware protection > customize > remove "WINWORD.EXE" from the blocked apps list in AVG Ransom ware and add it to allowed apps list. Please contact us again if you're unable to find ransomware component in AVG Free Antivirus.
Best regards,
Alok.

Hi, I got as far as components, and could not find ransomware protection. Any other ideas?
Thanks

Thank you for providing the screenshot.
In this case, I request you to add the exact path of the word file that was detected as threat by AVG Ransomeware to AVG's exclusion list as mentioned in this article: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-make-exclusions-from-all-scans-and-shields and check whether you are able to run the word file.

AVG has made my computer completely unusable.  Every Microsoft Word or Excel document that I open or create anywhere is opened as "read only" and cannot be modified. And I cannot save newly created files.

On the main panel, there are options:  General, Components, Update, Troubleshooting
Under Components there is:  File Shield, Behavior Shield, Email Shield, Web Shield, Safe Browser extension.
Under NONE of these is anything related to specific applications or file types such as Excel or Word.
What do I do?

Peter, I apologize for the inconvenience caused.
Please disable each component and check if the issue is resolved. This will help us narrow down the issue to which component of AVG is causing the issue.

Did you manage to resolve this?

I am having this exact same issue.  I had fixed it by removing all my files and folders from the list that is "protected" by the ransomware feature, but I just had AVG update, and now everything is once again read only so I can't use any of my files.  According to the help files, if I have my settings set to "smart mode" I should be able to use my files, but it makes no difference whether I have it in "smart mode" or "strict mode."  I have been very unhappy with the current iteration of AVG Internet Security from the start.  If I could, I would ask for a refund, but it has been more than 30 days since I paid for this piece of garbage.  I feel like I have wasted the money I paid for this program and am just about ready to accept that I am not going to get my money's worth out of it.  This latest update has made the program even more user unfriendly than it had been before.  I can't even turn the ransomware feature off!

These are my settings:  Ransomware Settings

WHY am I not able to use my files with these settings?

Hi Mae,

We realize this must be upsetting.
Could you provide the screenshot of the read only message appears while accessing the file?
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Perform repair of AVG Internet Security as mentioned here and see whether you are able to turn off ransomware protection.
