I am using AVG anti-virus Free on Win10. The program kept telling me it was out of date and an update was available. Clicking on the button resulted in a message saying it was up to date. This continued to happen repeatedly. I tried to download and install AVG Free again but the installation failed. I then downloaded AVG Remover and ran it. Unfortunately, my computer rebooted on its own half way through the process. I now get the message below. AVG Remover ran overnight and never completed. I attempted again to reinstall AVG Free but that did not resolve the issue. Please advise as to what to do next. Thanks.
Hello Dennis, I am sorry to hear about that. I would suggest you to download and run AVG Clear and AVG Remover tools to uninstall traces of failed AVG installation and reinstall it. Download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.
Open tool User Account control - click "Yes" Windows safe mode - click "No" Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security) Click "Uninstall" Click "Restart computer"

Thank you for the response. As noted above, AVG_Remover.exe never finishes. After many hours of operation, it is still working. This does not seem right. Please advise.
Dennis, Sorry to hear that. Please reboot your PC in safe mode as mentioned here ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-reboot-your-computer-into-Safe-Mode ) and run AVG remover tool in safe mode. Note: If you are using wireless network(Wi-Fi), please connect to wired network and reboot your PC in safe mode. If you don't have wired network, then turn off your Wi-Fi and reboot your PC in safe mode. Then turn on the Wi-Fi manually in safe mode. Thank you.
Thank you for the suggestion. I booted to Safe Mode and ran AVG Remover again. It got stuck on the dll error a couple of times but after many clicks on the Okay button, it continued and apparently finished. I can no longer see AVG listed in the Start Menu or as an icon on my desktop. However, it is still shown in Control Panel, Programs as available to uninstall. Also, some remnants are still running as shown in the Task Manager. What are the next steps?
Dennis, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused you. I have sent you an email with the instructions to collect the diagnostic information from your computer. This information will allow us to analyze the situation and provide you with a solution. Please follow the email steps and send the information to us.
Thank you, Bhuvaneswari. A representative contacted me and did a remote session to remove all traces of AVG from my computer. I am very impressed with AVG's support this week to help me, especially in light of the fact that I have been using the free product. It speaks volumes about AVG!
Tried all of the above and still cannot remove AVG 2011 x64 even though its nowhere to be seen. Tried every install/uninstall tool and every manual method but keep seeing this when trying to install a firewall.
