Have just installed new version of Lenovo Solution Centre, a well known manufactures diagnostic centre.
On installing AVG found a IDP Generic virus & put into quarantine store

Hello John,

I apologize for the inconvenience. I would request you to update the AVG program and then scan your computer. If you still face the same issue, please provide the screenshot http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot of the threat detection message to check and proceed further.

Please would you advise me how to update the AVG program?
I have AVG free Version 17.5.3022 updated 21st Aug. installed.

John, please open AVG Internet Security/ Antivirus free > Menu ▸ Settings ▸ Update. From there you can update the virus definitions and program.

I have now completed 2 scans using differant AVG screens
Pleased to report that end results were:-
1 Message your Browser is secure, no threats found
2 No threats
So assume all is OK?
But what was/is IDP Generic?
KarthikeyanKarthikeyan (Avast)
Thank you for letting us know the status. IDP generic means that the detection was detected by a Identity Protection detection component and it is a generalized file that got detected. This can either be a false positive as well which happened due to an out dated definitions and got fixed after updating AVG.

Well I Was Also Facing this issue, But later on i realised that this is just a Flase Positive Error. However if you are facing a serious issue on idp.generic (https://www.rootupdate.com/2019/06/what-idp-generic-avast.html) then you can Simply Report it to AVG.

Hello Ali,

We would like to get more information regarding the threat detection.
Could you create your own post on this community, so that we can collect the necessary information?
Are you using the free or paid version of AVG Antivirus?

There are many doubts in the minds of the people regarding this. Here's something I found from one of the article on the internet.

"IDP Generic virus is the detection that is detected by an Identity Protection detection component of the antivirus and it is a generalized file that gets detected. The files in one’s system will be flagged by this whenever the file does something identical to malware that triggers the flag."

Actionable steps to remove it are also given. Source - https://livefortech.net/what-is-idp-generic-virus-and-how-to-remove-it/

I was also facing the same problem as I was also not sure if the Idp.generic warning was just a false positive or a serious threat.
So I decided to learn about it and found the solution here: idp.generic (https://techinfogeek.com/idp-generic/)
I hope this will solve your problem as well because it did solve my issues clearly.

In general, you shouldn't ignore any warnings from your antivirus programs. Now speaking of idp. generic, ([website removed]) although most of its cases are false positives, you still shouldn't ignore it completely. What we recommend is to either use another antivirus program to see if that catches the same file or use VirusTotal.

Hello BBQ,
Thank you for sharing your suggestion through the community forum.
We're sorry to know that you feel like using a different antivirus program for a solution. Nevertheless, the appropriate way to deal with these kind of threat pop-ups is to submit the website to the below AVG False-positive website.
Thank you.
