Preventing Applications from accessing the internet

The latest version of AVG appears to have no ability to prevent specific programs/applications from accessing the internet. As a complete newby, can someone give me step by step instructions on how to do this in the latest version. I have got as far as Menu>settings>components>firewall>application rules but then how do I add the particular applications I want to control, to the existing list ?

Hello Tracey,
I understand the inconvenience caused. I am sure we will be able to fix this together. Lets try a few troubleshooting steps. I request you to change AVG Firewall network profile to private (open AVG Internet Security > menu > settings > components > firewall > customize > network profile > change all the network public to private) at first, please go to Firewall customize settings again > scroll down > click on system rules > enable all the system rules if it's not configured, please click OK and check if you can access the application with enabled AVG Internet Security.
Best regards,
Alok.

This has not worked.
I have followed your instructions exactly.

I still cannot see the application listed that I want to block from accessing the net.

The only application that was added to the existing list was Nvidia. I expect to see every application currently installed on my computer, as per the last version of AVG where I could individually block each program.

Do I have to open the application before it shows up on the list? It would be a bit late then to block it when it has already accessed the net.

Under firewall policies, I have set the default rule to ‘ask’.Will that mean that every time an application wants to access the net I will get an option to allow it or not. Like previously

Tracey,
I regret for the inconvenience caused. You need not open the application in order to block or allow it from accessing the internet.
To block or allow applications via AVG firewall, please follow the steps mentioned in this article ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-block-or-allow-IP-addresses-in-Firewall ).
Keep us informed about the status.

This has also not worked. I am a complete newby. Let's say, hypothetically, I want to stop an application like Adobe photoshop from accessing the internet when I open the application on my desktop computer. How do I do that?
