AVG on Windows 10 causes network/ethernet spike and freezes desktop for the duration

Installed AVG on Windows 10 and can see with Task Manager that a Send spike occurs for a second or two and causes the desktop to freeze no matter what app I'm using (or no app at all).  I did a clean delete of AVG and installed another anti-virus software - No spikes occurred for nearly a week.  Went to re-install AVG and uninstalled the other anti-virus software and after the install completed and rebooted, the spikes came back.  I'm giving the support team a chance to fix this, otherwise I will have to uninstall AVG permanently after over 17yrs of continuous use and being an avid advocate of the software.

Hello John,
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with AVG on your Windows 10 computer. The issue is might be because of old/previous AVG traces. If you wish, we will help you to remove all the AVG traces from your Windows computer and we will also help you to reinstall AVG 2017 version. I also see, you have requested an account deletion. Please also confirm if you really want to delete AVG MyAccount.
Best regards,
Alok.

I had a spare USB network adapter and tried that and it worked with no issues so it must have something to do with the Intel network adapter in the laptop. I'm surprised you didn't make sure I had the latest Windows 10 network adapter driver installed but that is a case at any rate, and it's only AVG that seems to be causing the network spikes.

And yes, as for the delete account instructions, I still need those.

Hello John,
I completely understand your concern. Please let me know the version of the AVG Antivirus you have installed on your computer (open AVG Free Antivirus/AVG Internet Security > menu > about > subscription) and also share a screenshot of the network spikes to assist you further. You can check the following link to see the instructions about taking the screenshot (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot). You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Best regards,
Alok.

On a side note, it is not very intuitive to get back to the forum question.   With the email updates I received of a response to my question, once you click on the link to the forum, your system doesn't allow you to respond unless you sign in, but when you do, it doesn't put you back to the forum page with your thread.  There is no way to go directly to your questions after you log in.

The only way I can do it is:  You have to log in via the login button at the left of the forum question, not the one on the top right of the banner. Then after you login, you have to select the "My Questions" view to get your questions to display in the main forum view.  If you try to search for your question, the system logs you out again and the cycle begins.  It should be easier for the initiate to get to their posted questions.

I'm not sure it's an AVG issue anymore.  When I switched back to the onboard ethernet port to try to reproduce the spikes, I couldn't get it to recur.  I realized that the laptop was in no-sleep power mode.  As soon as I set it back to Balanced mode, the spikes/freezes started up again.  Now to figure out the exact cause....
