0xC0070641

As from 2 Feb AVG Free would not upgrade.

Following other threads I uninstalled AVG Free and downloaded latest AVG_Antivirus_Free_1297

I get Error 0xC0070641, Event Exec finished

I then downloaded new Windows installer but get the same error 0xC0070641

Any suggestions ?

Hello Paul,
We apologize for the inconvenience caused. To resolve the issue, I suggest you to remove AVG traces using remover tool( http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe ). Please restart to complete the uninstalling process. After running AVG Remover, you may need to manually uninstall/delete any remaining AVG applications from 'Control panel' and also 'search' for a folder "AVG Remover"(usually in 'C' drive) and please delete it manually. And then I request you to install AVG Antivirus Free based on your OS (32-bit or 64-bit) .To determine whether your OS is a 32-bit or 64-bit, please click on this link. http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/827218

To download AVG Antivirus Free for 32-bit: http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Antivirus_Free_x86_694.exe
To download AVG Antivirus Free for 64-bit: http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/AVG_Antivirus_Free_x64_693.exe

Please follow the above instructions and let us know the status. Thank you.

No other AV. It started when AVG Free would not update from 2 Feb with "General Error" hence I followed the steps in my first post.  I have the Log from the last installation failure if this helps ?

OK Paul, Was just checking that your XP OS was totally up-to-date with a view to actually being able to install AVG.

AVG has worked well for a few years but I'll now have to try something else, It started with just the weekly upgrade that failed, but thanks for your help.
Balasubramanian SBalasubramanian S (Avast)
You are most welcome.
Upgrading your OS is the best solution, Paul.

I tried another AV and had a similar error - 0x80070641.
It was a Windows Installer issue which requires, in adition to running the new version
msiexec /unregister
msiexec /regserver
Up and running with AVG again.
Balasubramanian SBalasubramanian S (Avast)
Paul, do you mean on this attempt you were able to install AVG successfully?
