AVG Free Download

I've recently purchased a new toshiba C40D laptop and have just downloaded AVG Free last night. Since then i have been stuck on 87% completion for download/install - including almost two hours with nothing budging this morning. Why is this taking so long? I have removed that stupid McAfee anti-virus because it does nothing but block all other anitvirus'  and won't recognise mozilla firefox as a trusted browser. What else can i do?

Jason, Quote "I have removed that stupid McAfee anti-virus".. Did you download & run the McAfee total removal tool.... (http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe)?.

Hello Jason.
We are sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused. Could you please let us know what is the status now? Is the installation still running?
Jason LlewellynJason Llewellyn
Alan, this is what i mean by mcaffee being useless you have to download something to remove the program and then download another program to remove the remove program.

Avinash, i'm still at 87%. Have been since 8.30 this morning. I did get it all downloaded yesterday during the day but then the computer went haywire on me and i had to reset all settings to before i installed avg. trust me, it didn't take this long yesterday before the reset. I had it downloading last night for close to five hours. and now another three hours (almost) today.

Oh yeah, should mention that i never had this issue on my old toshiba satellite. Always had the entire program downloaded and installed within half an hour. This new laptop is fare more advanced yet this is happening?

Jason, thank you for the information.
We would request you to kindly wait for some more time. If the installation does not progress, please cancel the setup and try to install AVG free using the offline installation file based on your OS (32 bit or 64 bit).
To determine whether your OS is a 32-bit or 64-bit, please click on this link.http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/827218 .
Please visit this webpage http://www.avg.com/us-en/download.prd-afh-free to download the offline installation file. Thank you. Avinash, AVG Customer care.

Avinash, i've tried to cancel the installation process but it tells me i can't. I've tried to remove it so i can start it again but it tells me i have to uninstall avg protection which - to my knowledge - has not been installed. what the hell is going on?
AvinashAvinash (Avast)
Jason, do you see any AVG icons on your desktop created? Also please check in the list of installed programs in the control panel and let us know AVG is installed or not. Thank you.

Avinash, i've had to do a complete reset of my computer (back to factory settings) just to get this working. I've re-downloaded via cnet and - even though it's still loading, it has taken less time than downloading directly from avg. That is a sad indictment of your website. Yes, the avg icons are on my desktop, yes it is in the installed programs. If i have to do yet another reset and copy and paste from my other laptop, i will not be very happy with avg. Honestly, if it comes to that - it is poor service, indeed. And i will be using another anti-virus and not recommending avg to others.

Avinash, interesting how it downloads faster and more efficiently from a third party provider than from the avg website.very interesting.

Hello Jason,
You might have downloaded the 'offline' installation file from the link provided by our technician 'Avinash' and so it will take some time since the file is based on the 'bit-type' of your operating system. Has the installation now completed successfully or do you face difficulties? Thank you.
Jason LlewellynJason Llewellyn
it has now completely downloaded but there is a new problem. Today it won't update protection. What the hell?  I thought this was supposed to be windows 10 compatable?
AvinashAvinash (Avast)
Hello Jason.
AVG is compatible with Windows 10. Could you please let us know if you are receiving any error message when you try to update AVG?
Jason LlewellynJason Llewellyn
No error message, Avinash. It just will not allow me to update protection. No matter how many times i double click - it simply won't open. It worked yesterday when i finished downloading it from the cnet link (which i searched for myself), but not now. Even with McAfee completely removed. What the hell? Do i have to go through the whole rig-marol of this again only to have the same thing happen - every single time?

Bharath has been very helpful for this old luddite. Turns out i must have done something wrong - not paid attention or something - and didn't get the proper avg zen download. Call it a grey moment - just hope there's no grey hairs about!!!!!!

Hello Jason.

Pleased to see that you appear to be now sorted. Thanks for returning to the Community & posting.

Turns out it's not an avg issue - its a system issue. I've contacted Toshiba and am now hoping they can fix the issue. Otherwise, they'll be paying for a new computer that is user and download friendly.
