Uninstall tune-up

Somehow I have tune-up installed.  How do I uninstall it?

Hello Peter,

We will help you with the appropriate steps.

May I ask you the reason to uninstall AVG TuneUp from your PC?
Peter PratchettPeter Pratchett
I tried a free sample a few years ago and it removed one or more important file(s).  It took two days and handing over to AVG remote access to my computer to get the file(s) back.  I don't want to repeat the experience.

Sorry to hear about that. Click this link https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Uninstall-AVG-software for instructions to uninstall AVG TuneUp. We'd also like to clarify that AVG TuneUp will not remove any files without your consent. Once the scan is run, you can choose which files to remove and which to keep.

Thank you.  Only problem is that the link doesn't give removal instructions for Win XP.

Please follow the steps below to uninstall AVG TuneUp from an XP PC:

1. Log into Windows as a user with administrator permissions and ensure no other application or antivirus software is running on your PC.
2. Click Start button and select Control Panel, or select Settings ▸ Control Panel if you are using the classic Start menu.
3. Click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the category view, or double-click Add or Remove Programs if you are using the classic view.
4. Select AVG TuneUp by clicking it once, then click Remove in the bottom-right corner of the highlighted selection.
5. When the AVG TuneUp Uninstaller appears, click Yes to confirm the uninstallation.
6. Follow the on screen instructions to remove AVG TuneUp completely.

If you need anything else, do not hesitate to let us know.

Thank you.  So easy.  Why didn't I think of that?  "Some elements could not be removed.  These can be removed manually."  I could removed them manually if I knew what and where they are, but maybe this isn't necessary.  As for having a choice after tune-up as to which files are removed, if I had that choice the first and only time I tried it, then I must not have recognized them as being important, and since I don't remember what they were, there's a likelihood that I still wouldn't recognize them at the end of another tune up.

You are most welcome! No further action is required. Please reboot your PC once to finish the uninstall process.
