I am trying to uninstall the free version of AVG Antivirus. I have uninstalled from the control panel; when that didn't work, I have downloaded the avgclear and AVG_Remove utilities and run them; when that didn't work, I have re-run them in safe mode. I am still encountering a problem when I try to install a new security program: "AVG Update Helper was detected on your system." I've searched my disk for a program with this name, without success. Can anyone provide guidance on how to solve the problem? Many thanks for your help.
I found nothing labeled AVG in the first two locations. I found an AVG folder with two files in the third location, and deleted them. I rebooted, tried again to reinstall the other security program, and got the same error message - "AVG Update Helper was detected on your system."

was a solutionfound for this? I'm having exactly the same problem trying to remove AVG Free and install a new AV. I have tried avg cleaner and remover, manual directory removal, registry clean, and manual removal of anything belonging to AVG on the PC as well as the instructions above for appdata / program data and program files. All to no avail. any install of new AV comes back with error "AVG update helper was detected on your system" with advice to remove any other AV solution. thanks in advance K
We're sorry for the inconvenience caused. While running AVG remover tool, did you click on "run anyway" and proceed further? May I know the operating system of your computer?
Why are there no fixes for this online? Same boat: ran both AVG removal tools in both Safe Mode and regular mode, looked in all the places I was told to look to delete other files, and still, "AVG Update Helper" comes up and blocks installation of other software. What gives? This is the opposite of what I Want out of AV software. Actually, stuff like this is what I was using AVG for to try and prevent.
I have this same problem- why isn't there a fix for this online?? What do we have to do, file a complaint with the department of consumer affairs or the BBB? I'm trying to install another brand of anti-virus on my computer and it won't let me because it says it finds AVG Update Helper still on my computer. What kind of loser company are you??
I have the same issue as Victor. My frustration with the ineptitude of the responses here is growing, as well as my contempt for the abysmal quality of Avast products.

AVG Update Helper is connected to AVG Secure Browser. It seems that the AVG Secure Browser has been uninstalled incorrectly.
Please try reinstalling AVG Secure Browser and then uninstall it again to check with the issue.
