AVG blocked the threat SIHClient.exe. I clicked Quarantine. It's been almost an hour and it still says "moving to Quarantine". I ran another AVG scan which came back with no threats. Also ran a MalwareBytes scan that came back with no threats. I opened AVG and looked under Quarantine and it says my Quarantine is empty. Any help is appreciated!
Here's what the exact wording in the AVG popup said: "Threat blocked! We've blocked the threat SIHClient.exe from harming your computer. What would you like to do?" I clicked on the Quarantine tab and it said it was "Moving to Quarantine". I've left the AVG box up on my computer and it still says "Moving to Quarantine" with a green bar moving back and forth. (it's been doing this for over 4 hours). I clicked on the Details tab in the AVG box and it displayed the following information: Threat name - IDP.Generic Process - c:\WINDOWS\System32\SIHClient.exe Detected by - Behavior Shield Status - Moving file to Quarantine
Also, I opened AVG and checked the Quarantine and it says it's empty. Hope this answers your question. If you need any more info, please let me know. I appreciate the help!!
Thank you for the detailed explanation. This shouldn't be happening with AVG. May I know at what instance you received the threat alert? Is it while running a particular application? Do you have the latest 18.2 version of AVG Antivirus installed on your PC?
The version of AVG is 18.2.3046. I turned my computer on and left it, I didn't open any programs or go online etc. When I sat down to work a few hours later, the AVG popup was on the screen.
I restarted the computer and worked on it all day with no problems. I ran another AVG scan and a MalwareBytes scan. Both came back with no threats. Hopefully, the problem is solved! Thanks very much for your help!
I have exactly the same issue today i.e. stick trying to quarnatine SIHClient.exe. I'm on AVG 18.4.3056 definitions 180613-0. I found a tread on the Microsoft support site saying this is part of the Windows 10 updating system. I have now gone into Task Manager and deleted the AVG process which was hanging. I uspect this is a false positive but can you confirm please and, if so, tell me how to get AVG to ignore it. Thanks Simon
Following on from the above post, the file is no longer in system32 but isnt in the AVG quarantine areaa either, nor is it in the recycle bin. Help please!
Hello Simon, This isn’t an expected behavior, let's work together to fix this issue. Could you share a screenshot of the AVG detection with "See details" page to proceed further? You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. Regards, Alok.
Ok, I "think"this is the answer: it was marked safe, but, Microsoft updated it and the AV companies havent updated the HASH for the new file. As soon as AVG and other get the HASH updated this will no longer be marked as a threat. http://systemexplorer.net/file-database/file/sihclient-exe/37565150
This just started for me today. I did some searching and it looks like Avast has been blocking this program for years. I would like to know what the threat is??? What did AVG find that caused this threat status to change? I told AVG to quarantine however just like Trish says above AVG is unable to handle the quarntineing of the file correctly and now if I want to restore the file out of the quarantine (in case it's a false positive) I will be unable to do so. So, bad on Microsoft for putting code out there that isn't digitally signed (1), and (2) bad on AVG for removing a file that they're unable to allow a restore on. Just my .02 --- Thx, Chris
Hello All, Thank you for providing the screenshots. In this case, I request you to update your AVG Internet Security/AVG Free Antivirus virus definition and version (open AVG protection > menu > settings > updates), reboot your computer once.
If the issue still persists, then I request you to upload the file (SLHClient.exe) to https://www.virustotal.com/#/home/upload and give us the hash url for the further analysis. Cheers, Alok.

Notice that the file path goes to an empty directory. This is not a new program...it is quite old...and has never given me any problems before. The Windows Explorer IS SET to display hidden files.

To be sure, does AVG threat detection popup say as it blocked "SIHClient.exe" and moved it to Quarantine?
