removal tool for html:RedirME-inf[Trj]

Hi, despite several AVG deep scans + HitMan Pro anti-malware + Windows anti-virus, my Google Chrome Yahoo home page keeps being periodically redirected to some site that AVG does block from loading (thank you AVG) ... AVG identifies the infection as html:RedirME-inf[Trj] but nothing I try seems to remove this pesky item.  It happens even though my home page at Yahoo uses https.  I've Googled "removal tool for html:RedirME-inf[Trj]" but not sure I entirely trust some of the links.  Hoping some AVG expert can help me figure this out.  Is it possibly going to redirect other websites like banking, etc?  I am using Windows 10 on a laptop, this has been happening for a couple of weeks now.  If all else fails, I will restore the computer to a couple of months ago.  Advice appreciated!

Hello, Sheila.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused to you. Please click on 'More details' on the threat detection pop up from AVG and provide us the screenshot ( http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot ) of it to assist you further. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. Also let us know if it is a paid version or free version of AVG that you are using.

Please check for unwanted extensions on Chrome and remove them. Right click on the desktop shortcuts of your web browsers, click on Properties, check the 'Target' field. It should be “C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe”  for Chrome. Please check and remove if any other text is added to this path.

Thanks for advice ... I went straight to your para 2 and found no unwanted extensions, then brought up properties of desktop shortcuts for browsers.  Sure enough there was extra text appended to the target field, which I deleted (didn't write it down, something about "default directory").  Since then, no redirect activity, even when I click on various Yahoo news stories (that's where I first noticed problem).  Fingers crossed, but if and when I do have another redirect and threat detection I will fwd the info.  BTW I am using AVG Free, have used it for years and installed it on church computers as well.

Yeah, spoke too soon ... hope the screenshot helps, there were at least half a dozen AVGthreat detection windows opened up.  The destination website, which gets blocked, is xml.plaimedia.com, the address bar states http://xml.plaimedia.com/nlp/index.php?s1=aff40fyejirftf00&kw=4444444&url=http://s0u.kiho.gdn/ and Chrome seems to have blocked most aspects of this particular website

Hello Shelia,

Thank you for providing the screenshots. May I know if that threat detection popup appears when you browse that particular website? Also, please provide the screenshot of AVG version (AVG > Menu > About) to check and assist further. You could also try reset Google Chrome to its default settings  (https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214?hl=en) and check the status.

Hi, RedirME-inf[Trj] has not appeared for days, just popped up again this morning.  To answer your question: the threat detection popup appears only when I open yahoo.ca as my home page -- yahoo may be open for awhile before the AVG threat detection popup appears, or it may come up as soon as I open the yahoo site, as it did this morning.  I never browse the website referred to by the popup, I believe it has something to do with one or more of the news story links on the yahoo page.AVG Free screenshot

Same problem here. What is going on? My last question in this thread disappeared?

BTW I just tried resetting Chrome to default settings and the same problem came right back.  If it keeps happening I will uninstall and reinstall Chrome, but I am hoping AVG can give us some advice here!

OK so I tried malwaretips.com and they had a redirection-malware removal procedure that included HitmanPro, which I already use as a malware detector alongside AVG.  It involved installing two further malware fighter programs, and the first one right away found 4 "suspicious browser settings" for both MS Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, all to do with Yahoo which I use as my homepage and search engine.  It automatically repaired them so I am not sure what was changed/deleted etc. but the malwaretips site said this redirection can result from adware inadvertently installed on your computer.  It remains to be seen whether the problem is solved, maybe AVG senior gurus will come to same conclusion about adware.  Cheers!

Hello,

I'm getting the same error message whenever I'm in my Yahoo mail - mail.yahoo.com. See screen capture attached.

It happens only with this site, but happens very consisently.

It changes my URL from secure to not secure with an " ! " instead of the green secure lock.

Please advise.

Many thanks!

Hello,

Whenever I'm in mail.yahoo.com I get the same error message as mentioned above.

I've atttached a screen capture of the message I get. It happens consistently, and every few minutes. I notice that the browser then goes from green (secure) to grey with an " ! " mark.

I don't see anything added after "chrome.exe" as mentioned aboveYahoo error messagehttp://C:\Users\Dell\Desktop\AVG_Jan_12_2018.png

See attached.

Please advise!

Many thanks
Evelyn
