Trial-Only Mode?

Hello,
I just recently (as in, 30 minutes ago) updated my AVG Antivirus Free Edition.  I did not use FileHippo or any other third-party downloader.  The update came directly from the AVG Antivirus Free program itself (as in, I opened the program up and updated from there).

When I first opened the updated Antivirus Free, I got a message that said that I would be in Trial-Only Mode until my subscription was activated.

This has left me with a few questions.
1)  I have no subscriptions to anything on AVG.  Why would I need to activate something that I don't have in the first place?
2a) What does "Trial-Only Mode" mean, exactly?  What features would not be present in Trial-Only Mode?
2b) Would "Trial-Only Mode" work/behave in the same way as Non-Trial Mode AVG Free Edition?
2c) Is AVG Antivirus Free Edition that's in Trial-Only Mode temporary (as in a 30-day trial) or is it simply a reduced-function version of the program?

Here's what comes up when I open AVG Antivirus Free, if it helps. Image is of the page that comes up when I open the AVG program. Computer, and Web & Email are listed as "Protected", while anything under Full Protection is not (which is fine by me).

Hi Anna,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern.

Based on your description and screenshot, I see that you still have the AVG Anti-Virus Free installed on your computer.

Seems like you were offered the AVG Internet Security Trial version which contains the Full Protection Components along with the Basic Protection. The AVG Internet Security provides advanced full protection for all your devices.

The AVG Anti-Virus Free is a free program and doesn't have any Trial version.

@Akash Chanda

Bother, it didn't seem to post the image itself  Or it's not showing up in the topic.  I will try again at the end of this reply.

Yes, AVG Antivirus Free is what I have, and is what I want to keep having.  18.1.3044 is the latest version of that, yes?  I was even told by AVG itself that I needed to update.  When I re-opened the program after the update, I got the same message as this fellow here: https://support.avg.com/answers?id=9060N000000U6qwQAC

Here is a screenshot of what I see when I open the program.  The message that I and the OP of the other topic I linked showed up under the "My AVG" tab.  User-added image

Hi Anna,

Thank you for the screenshot.

I confirm that you still have the AVG Anti-Virus Free installed on your computer and yes, version 18.1 is the latest version. However, please provide me a screenshot of the message that you see when you click on "My AVG" Tab. Click here for the steps to create a screenshot.

Hi Akash...

Many apolgies for the incredibly late reply, as I got busy for a while there.

The message that both of us refer to did not come up when I clicked on the My AVG tab.  it was something that just popped up under that tab when I first opened the program after downloading the update.  It has not appeared since (either in a notification or upon opening the program), and I do not have a screenshot of it when it did appear.

Thank you for confirming that I have the correct program, though!  As for functionality, it seems to be working.

Thank you for confirming this Anna.

Please do not worry, the message you received must be an ad to try trial version of AVG Internet Security.

This trial version will provide you to access all features of AVG including firewall for 30 days.

Once the trial version gets complete, the AVG program you have will revert to free version which will have basic protection on your computer.

I had the same thing just now after being asked to restart my PC to pick up the latest upgrade to AVG AntiVirus Free. Same symptoms as the other correspondents above - a message saying 'Don't forget to activate' and saying I am in trial-only mode. I have been using AntiVirus Free for years and I don't have or wish to have a subscription. I took a screenshot and will try to upload it!

Lynne,

In recent update, our security product is designed with a prompt to activate customer's subscription. If you are using free version, you can ignore it. Once you ignored it, it won't reoccur. Not to worry, you are still using AVG free version not trial one.
