We have scheduled maintenance planned from 8PM CET, 27th January to 9PM CET, 3rd February. During this time, the AVG community will be on read-only mode.
We apologise for the inconvenience. Please visit AVG Support page for any urgent issues. Thank you for your patience.
I have had CleanMyMac X and AVG AntiVirus installed on my Mac for months and never had an issue, and now I'm getting an error (see screenshot below). I have followed instructions from AVG in other posts and added CleanMyMac X to my exception list but the issue is STILL persisting. I tried to contact customer service and then when I was submitted, the "contact" form greyed out and I was linked to come to the community center. So I can't even contact customer service about it, apparently, even though AVG has not offered any substantial help on this issue. I am about to uninstall AVG completely. The lack of substantial response on this is incredibly frustrating.
Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused. This isn't the experience we wanted you to have with AVG. We'd like to inform you that we're detecting the "Cleanmymac X" app as PUP/PUA potentially unwanted program/application because the app is marked as Decptor by APPESTEEM and does not match with our Guidelines. If you still wish to use the app, please disable scanning for PUAs from Preferences > Scanning. Thank you for understanding.
Thank you for your quick response. Like I mentioned before, CleanMyMac X has been on my computer for months now and never raised any alarms by AVG, so I'm confused what is causing the problem now. It was never raised as a PUA before. I don't want to entirely disable scanning for PUAs, as that could potentially put my computer at risk. Is there any way to continue scanning for PUAs without detecting CleanMyMac X as a threat?
If disabling scanning for PUAs is the ONLY solution, then AVG will be unable to work properly since scanning for PUA's is a huge reason I went with AVG in the first place. If this is the only solution, then it seems it might be best to uninstall completely.
Please let me know if disabling scanning for PUAs is the only option. Thank you.
We've forwarded your concern to our higher level support. We'll write back to you once we've received an update from them. Meanwhile, we request your patience and to keep checking the posts regularly. Thanks.
Hello to everyone who communicated on this forum thread. My name is Shawn and I am writing on behalf of the AVG Senior Support team. I will help you.
First, to confirm, AVG is aware of this disruption. However, it is not a false detection, and in fact is a legitimate detection.
The reason for this detection is that the program was determined by AppEsteem, which is a third party reputable CyberSecurity authority, to be a deceptor. The following AppEsteem FAQ, https://is.gd/8oc4JM, clarifies the deceptor classification.
You are encouraged to communicate your concern with CleanMyMac, so that they may comply with necessary guidelines not to be determined PUP.
This disruption is obviously an inconvenience for a lot of our users. For those users who still want to use the application, beyond disabling scanning of PUPs for File Shield, the only other potential work-around solution, is to set an exception for the file shield (screenshot attached). After setting the exception, it may be necessary to reinstall the CleanMyMac application.
I trust this explanation and information help clarify your concern. Regards, Shawn
