You say add the IP you wish to block , but how to block a program ?
A few programs i currently have installed work fine , but after updating they give trouble .
How do i stop that without knowing any IP ?
It used to be easy by adding the path to the file .

Hello Cj,
We are sorry for any inconvenience caused. We do not have option to block the application with AVG. However, you can change the AVG Firewall mode to interactive and it will ask permission whenever you open application. If you will allow the application will open otherwise application will not open. You can uninstall the program you don't want from control panel, program and features. Thank you.

To AVG,
Why would you remove the feature of adding or blocking programs with the firewall? This is a ridiculous move and with that I will not be paying for AVG again and will be moving to another AV supplier.

AravindhAravindh (Avast)
Hello Jon,
We do understand your concern. We keep you informed that in previous version we do have the function in AVG firewall to block/ allow the each application separately. If you think that old specification is more easier than AVG 2017, we would request you to submit http://www.avg.com/product-feedback  your feedback through this link, so that our developers will look into that and try to modify the firewall settings in future.
Thank you.

I agree. The program is worthless now.

I have the same problem here. Ever since the program was "updated" I am unable to modify the firewall settings for individual programs. It used to be very easy with the previous version to go into the firewall options menu, select the program by name and click allow/block. Now I just can't find the option to modify the rules. If the option is not restored, I will be switching back to my old firewall as soon as my subscription expires.

Agree with above. I have added a "packet rule" to allow TCP on port 80 but it still isn't working. Where are "application rules"? I cannot find such a page

I agree with all, I will not pay longer for AVG software if single application controll in firewall is no longer available like in version 2016.
I'm using AVG for a long time and I'm very dispointed about this issue.

Mario,

We understand your concern, we apologize, Yes, it is not available in the current version at the moment. However our developers are working on the improvements in this area. We expect this should be fixed in the next update. Thank you!

I found the issue at installing AVG on a new Win10-machine by invitation of my AVG-Ultimate license.
All my older machines of the family are running V.2016 on different operating systems, no issue, all is working well. On the new machine was automatically downloaded the new V.2017
Now I kindly ask you:
1. What can be a feasible reason to remove an existing mostly wanted feature in the new V.2017?
2. Do you have a prognosis when will be this feature back again?
3. Looking forward to updates on the older systems, is the issue also to be expected?
4. Is it possible to avoid such updates and run the older version until problems are solved?
5. Is it possible to install the older 2016 version on a the new win10-machine?
It would be fine to have a reliable answer because otherwise I have to move to other AV suppliers.

Hello Horst,
We can completely understand your concern. Unfortunately we don't have option to install 2016 or older version since AVG download page only has the link for the latest AVG 2017 version. It is recommended to use the latest version for more frequent updates and program definitions. The latest version of AVG may not be the same as older version but it has been designed with more advanced virus definitions. Our development team are still exploring the new features of 2017 version and the requested fetaures will be added in our upcoming updates. You can keep using the older AVG version in your other pc's till we release these updates but we are sorry that it is not possible to reinstall older AVG version .
Feel free to contact us for any further queries. Thank you.

I hate this new version 2017.  Now have bad firewall.  I still have my version 2016 but since new version 2017 does not give you an actual license, I can't apply the license to my 2016 version that needs renewal.
I used to tell everyone how great AVG Internet Protection was, but I will stop recommending it until the new version 2017 is fixed.

Hello Sechaba,
Unfortunately the 2016 version of the AVG program is no longer available for download. However we are working on the improvements to add the applications to the Firewall exception.  Please feel free to contact us for further assistance.

Kaspersky would never tell a customer this...
They would provide you Version that you request..
As I mentioned in my post, I have successfully reverted back to 2016..
The file you need is    AVG_Protection_822.exe    ...
AVG could have provided a link to this file, instead they want to make you keep 2017..
I have mentioned in my previous post that I would provide this to anyone who wants it...
AVG (No, not AVG, the ones supporting and responding to this page) do not understand what this means to people like us... Personally I don't think they care...

Hello Master,
We sincerely apologize for the difficulties you are currently experiencing.
Since AVG 2016 is an outdated version, we will not recommend you to install it.
AVG 2017 is the latest version and we are aware that there are some changes to be done in this version.
We are forwarding these issues to our developers team and they will fix it in next updated.

Hello Joyson,

meanwhile I found an additionally issue about the firewall. In the older version 2016 was a helpful record of all applications connecting to the network. It was configurable for each to monitor
which external IPs are connected, so that easily could be found what happens
and who will spy me. This very useful feature I could not find in the new version 2017. What is the reason for removing it? Would you tell this also to your developers, please?
When will be the next update available with all good old things reinstalled?
Regards Horst

Hello Horst,

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Yes, the Firewall features for applications that was present on 2016 is absent in the latest 2017 version.
We aren't sure about the exact reason for removing this feature as it is decided by the developers team.
However, we request you to submit the feedback using this link: http://www.avg.com/product-feedback so that it will reach the developers directly.
Thank you.

Hello AVG Team,

usually from my experience it will not be a big issue to reinstall well known existing software modules.
So please let all the waiting users know, when it will be done.
Can it be true that AVG had been hit by blackmail of Microsoft, NSA, Trump, ... to remove all useful function from the firewall so that their spy tools can not be blocked by users?
This is on my mind the only thinkable root cause for such a decision.

Regards
Horst

Had to revert back to the 2016 version on one of my 9 servers.. there was some sort of change in the firewall that would not allow all 32 if my IP Cameras to connect to the NVR software.. this was my only problem with the newest version, but other than that all is good. I still run the newest version on the other eight servers as they are webservers and do not require as many port configurations.. in my case, I cannot have any of my servers down, soit isjust easier to put the older version back on, but will play around with the new version on another machine to get a feel of whats changed.. my only other option is to disable the firewall... anyways,  your programmers did a great job....  Thumbs Up!

I already have 2017 installed on 8 of my servers, works fine for those..
my CCTV server however, i have 2016 installed..  2017 will not work unless I disable
the firewall..  I can run KASPERSKY with no problems what so ever...... it is superior
by far... But I was willing to give AVG a best try. I am not just going to dump it yet..
if by the time my subscription runs out I am still having problems, I will go back to you know
who.....   I am truely amazed at some of the responses given here..  for people with Windows 10,
use Malwarebytes along with Defender they don't need anyother programs.. yes I run malwarebytes
with your program, I trust Kaspersky and Malwarebytes over any programs out.. I am not a computer
Game player, I am a Degreed Computer Programmer who is not impressed by flashy programming
that does nothing different from anyother program out there.. I intend to find the problem with your 2017 firewall when I get time, it is just a unique problem for my CCTV Server because of my setup here..
I have Six different Gigabit Lan Backbones here, four just to run the 32 - 1/1.7” 12Megapixel Dahua IP Cameras...  No this is not a business, this is running at my home with three seperate ATT internet connections.. Well nice chatting..

Thank you for your resonse...

I am a software developer and use certain tools to connect to client server databases. All has been fine until I was "upgraded" to AVG Internet Security 2017! This new version SUCKS! I now get 10060 API on "connect" errors when I try to connect to the client server data on my own development machine! I know it's AVG because if I turn off AVG, it connects perfectly...like it did last week! The data management application itself runs and it does connect to other servers but will not connect to the client server data on my own development machine.  I tried checking packets, etc. but it makes no difference. I can only assume it's not opening the port on the specific IP address but even though I added the port and the IP address in Firewall packets, it still doesn't work (192.168.1.165...ports 12010/12011).

Now I have to risk the security of my computer while I turn off AVG so I can back up the data and meta data for each of my software products so I can restore them on another server on my network which AVG allows (for some reason!

My subscription was supposed to renew on May 20, 2017 but I just cancelled my subscription. I can't "wait for the next update" as all the AVG support people here have request us to do. I stand to lose too much in the interim. To not allow an older version to be downloaded and used is nothing short of ludicrous! I have referred scores of my clients to AVG in the past six years. I will make certain to advise them to shop around the next time their subscription comes due. To put out a faulty product, which does not allow configurations needed, and not allow us to go back to a previous version is insane!

Goodbye AVG!

@Gunaseelan Gurusamy
I already did leave comments in the product feedback. They are similar to what I left above, including the fact that I added the port and IP address to the Firewall Packets but still experienced firewall issues. Considering that this whole thread has been going on since January 11, 2017 I cannot wait for an update that may never occur. Additionally, I was never asked if I wanted to upgrade as I have been in the past and as I am asked in most other applications. It just happened the end of last week and I had to triage this while I was in the midst of a deadline on an application. I don't have the time for this nonsense. Where was the QA on this? Surely you have beta testers...did they not have any issues like everyone else in this topic/thread especially with regard to the firewall?

I was with AVG on a paid subscription for six years. I didn't want to leave but my hand was forced. As I stated above, I recommended MANY of my clients to AVG. However, I have moved on to one of your highly rated competitors and their product is working flawlessly and has allowed me to make all the configurations I needed to make. I don't see me moving again, or back to AVG, even if the firewall issues are fixed.

It's too bad it had to end like this.

ALLOW APPLICATION AVG FIREWALL 2017

My 2016 AVG (ZEN) updated to AVG 2017 by itself?? The lasttime AVG updated to 2017 the firewall allow application was missing, you cant set anything applcation to be blocked by the firewall. So i managed to install AVG 2016 with the help of the google machine and find the AVG CFG files and reinstall them. Anyway today AVG 2017 updated its self to the lastest AVG 2017, and again i can't find the allow application AVG firewall 2017. Last time i called there technical they couldn't help me. I hate to say this, but they where useless. So again with this latest update no ALLOW APPLICATION IN FIREWALL SETTINGS. Can you please have your software code writers add this to the next update. Its not rocket science. Please fix it up as i can see there is alot of customers asking about this and having issue.
Thanks

I too have had issues with this new "upgrade" It has blocked access for my usenet readers with no way to "allow" it has also blocked access to a shared drive I have on my router. I have to disable AVG in order for those items to work. Not real safe. I had moved from Kapersky (paid) to AVG (paid) because the former was very intrusive. This new version is making me want to switch before my subscription ends

For my issues with usenet adding the file locations didn't work, I had already done that. Adding an application is not an option as browse only will let you select folders. The usenet access from my system to the outside is being blocked, not the application.

To configure the access to internet for applications just go to the windows "Application Rules" doing this:
1 - Click on "Internet Security" in AVG Window Zen
2 - The Internet Security windows will open. Click on Menu->Settings
3 - On left panel click on "Components" and on the right panel click on Firewall (Don't make click on Customize). After click on Firewall it will expand and more links will be visible (if nothing happen just make click on the little arrow to the right, it will expand the firewall section). At the very right a link that says "Application rules" will be visible. Just make click in that link.

3 - Another way to make "Application Rules" windows visible is clicking on "Firewall Logs" link and on the new windows make right click on any log and select on the popup "Show Application"

4 -  a new windows will appear with the names for each application group with the rules in place. Just expand the group of interest clicking on the arrow and on the right make click on "Packet rules" . If necessary to delete or move the rule just do it making right clicks.
5 - To create new application rules just go to the botton and make clicks on the buttons "New Group" or "New Application rule" if necessary.

As Hector Curi mentioned, it would seem that the option to block a specific application/program is still there, its just a bit harder to find. Here are the steps on how I personally did it:
  1. Select Internet Security
  2. Click "Menu" on the upper right corner and then click on "Settings"
  3. Click on "Components"
  4. Click on "Firewall" in order to expand it and get a short description and a few more options (Uninstall Component, Network Connections, Firewall Logs and Application Rules)
  5. Click on the "Application Rules" option within the Firewall drop down.
  6. Click on the "New Group" option and name it what you want.
  7. Right click on the new group you created and select "New Application Rule". This will open a window for you to browse for the program you wish to create a rule for.
  8. Once you have selected your application/program, click on its "Packet Rules" option.
  9. Change its "Internet Out" action to "Block" as well as the "Default Rule" Action.
  10. Done
This should work the same way it used to work on the 2016 version, it's just more of a hassel to get there.

Hope this helps!

I agree with the majority of posters, AVG has really lost it. One of my programs Ispy.exe is in the firwall exception list but AVG still blocks it. The only way to use the program is to turn the firewall off. I used to  recomend avg but won't be doing now and I won't renew when my subscription ends unless something is done.

Hi,
yet to say another disgruntled cutomer with the lack of control of what i want to allow and what to block in my firewall.
I have been with AVG for approx 6 years after migrating from McAfee with no probs thus far . But now the new update with the lack of user control makes it unfit for purpose and so if this is not addressed i will have no choice but to move my custom elswhere not by by choice might i had.
I,m a gamer and AVG  is blocking my web cams that i use for facial and head tracking purposes but i can use them in web cam mode.
I now have got lots of equipment sat around now redundant   because its being blocked by AVG firewall..

Does anyone know of an antivirus software that provides customized control on individual programs more like the previous AVG version?

Will AVG fix this problem and put customized control of individual program access that was available as a feature of firewall settings on previous versions or not? I think that’s what customers want to know.

After the last update AVG Internet Security works differently.
Now I can't figure out how to block or allow applications accessing the internet with AVG Firewall.
Does anyone know how to do this?

NO
AVG firewall to block/ allow the each application separately. HAS BEEN REMOVED
WHAT
Why would you remove the feature of adding or blocking programs with the firewall?

This is a ridiculous move and with that I will not be paying for AVG again and will be moving to another AV supplier.

I agree with the majority of posters, AVG has really lost it. One of my programs Ispy.exe is in the firwall exception list but AVG still blocks it. The only way to use the program is to turn the firewall off. I used to  recomend avg but won't be doing now and I won't renew when my subscription ends YOU JUST LOST A 6 YEAR VAILID CUSTOMER

We do understand your concern. We would like to inform you that the option to block applications accessing Internet via AVG 2017 is currently not available. But we have escalated this to our developers and they are working on it. So it will be added in future updates. Your patience is much appreciated in this matter.

Just did a manual update. have the may 12. version 17.4.314
option does not show.
Agree with most people here that leaving an option out, specially for those who have "mild" auto add function and regret later on they've let the app slip thru and can't reverse this, is a serious complaint not to be taken with the low level of replies I've seen here. As shown the option is back for the UK community. (You're taking Brexit too serious my friends)
Even freeware firewalls have this option...

They want it back, I want it back, re-instate the option asap for all languages and versions.
Take care!

Sorry, do you mean to say that you need to get back the settings of AVG 2016 version and not happy with the 2017 settings and features?

Had to uninstall the AVG firewall due to it blocking several programs and when I went into the settings and add the programs it still blocks them. Changing it from what it was in 2016 was a HUGE mistake. Using windows Firewall now, thanks AVG.

you will have to find the original block and remove it first, then enter the new allow string..
you could just find the original block entry and change it to allow..
the 2016 version is still available but you will need the installation file that AVG won't provide...
also to anyone who reads this support page, if you are having troubles getting things to commuicate
over your network, be sure to enter each device IP address into the firewall packet rules....
I visit here every now and then to keep up on all of the unhappy customers AVG has created..
it seems that they care more about creating nagware than dealing with customer complaints..
To AVG,  you put nagware into the free and trial versions...   Not my paid version,  Please...

If AVG engineers wanted it to happen it would have happened already. In fact, they don’t need to do anything. They have the code from the previous version which is basically the same as this one but they just disabled those components. The interface is really nothing as we all know. The update is mostly to get rid of AVG pirated versions. I mean those that have the previous version is working fine so they could have allowed us to reinstall that. This is more like an authoritative pressure on customers to give up their rights on what they want. But then CIA/NASA/SVR RF/GCHQ pay better. I agree if it’s for our security but our needs are not yet met.
Aloua TapuelueluAloua Tapueluelu
The only reason why AVG would take out port control is to have direct access to our computers.
I don’t mind if all the intelligence services around the world want to get into our computers without restriction and therefore pay AVG for it but taking out this feature isn’t working for most of us. I’m sure there’s a better option where spying services can work without sacrificing out needs.

Aloua TapuelueluAloua Tapueluelu
I think this was done to make pirating AVG impossible. That makes sense and I agree but still, paid customers are hanged in the process.

Hello Malcolm,

I regret for the inconvenience caused. I understand that you are unable to access some applications after installing AVG Internet Security. Please follow the below steps and check if that fix this issue:

Please open the AVG Internet Security installed in your computer and click on Menu->Settings->Components->Firewall->Customize->Change the application settings from "Auto Decide to "Allow". Once this is done, click on "Network Profile(Left side of the interface) and change the profile to "Private" if selected in "Public".  Please click on "System Rules" and enable the "Networking and Printer sharing" option and check if that fix the issue.

Hello AVG Team,

now I'm using AVG 2017 firewall feature to manually allow / block applications for 3 month.
All is working fine so far on different machines except some cases of power loss or system hang at bootup. In most of this cases the firewall config is completely lost and must be established again by working for hours on it. Other setting are not lost.
I tried to save all settings by the new feature on the menu->settings and reload it. AVG confirms each time settings are saved and a file is also made. Reloading config is also confirmed, but nothing is changed by reload.
Do you have any idea how to make functional reload saved firewall configs?

Best Regards
Horst

ive had countless issues now with the new avg program update,

it fudged up our fedex shipping system, our cad/cam communication link to our mill,

and my local FTP site

this bit about not bing able to manage exclusions in the firewall in or out or blocking is obsurd,

*(i know most of the kids use it to block "phone home" requests f4rom bootleg software)

but for internal networking this causes an issue,  as well as the network profile switching, when you have more than one deticated connection  , ie. equipment,

further more, i can no longer allow my FTP site through the firewall on this system,

needless to say the program update was frustrateing, alot of man hours,

ive retaled AVG for 5 years at a repair shop before my current employment in IT ,   AVG is solid  and presents a good score on the VIRUS BTN 100, reactive. proactive tests,

as well as the phone customer service,

in current news,  AVAST has purshased AVG and Preform (CCleaner)

AVAST and AVG use the same deffinition library with difftrnt suites,

i beleve i will be cancleing my subscription to avg internet security for our 20 system network,

i know avast still has this option in there firewall,

and i feel AVG has wasted a countless ammount of my personal man hours fighting network issues, that otherwise would have been resolved with the previous settigns,

im not sure if you can or are able to answer this,

when will avg present this feture?

if not with in the next 20 days, a 8 year AVG patron and previous retailer, is going to move to the newer parent company ,  i would rather not,  but the sevarity of the current dractic changes are truly leaving me to conclude this is not longer cost effective and is actually deminishing returns at this point becasue of tencial issues that had no reason to change .....

I also have problems with AVG blocking sites I need so I decided to uninstall the site.. and it won't let me!!!!!   Try to run uninstall and I just get a  message saying there is a problem uninstalling and eror number  Oxe0010663.

Thought that maybe running the repair would fix the problem so I ran the repair only to get the message that the repair can't run and the same, general, error number...
How can I uninstall the site ??

Note I have also used AVG for many years but can't use it if it blocked sites I need and there is no way to stop them blocking the sites.

What is going on with AVG firewall this last year?
AVG keeps losing all firewall settings - or they are wiped as part of minor updates - no idea as AVG does not inform me of anything it is doing.

In the last few months, I have reinstalled AVG countless times (at the request of you rtechnical support) in order to try and keep my firewall settings and after a few days, BHAM, back to square one!!

I am SO MAD about the amount of wasted hours spend on trying to fix this program. It used to work flawlessly, but you have lost site of the core requirements in adding on all these superfluous "Extras".
Restoring firewall settings does not work!

I am so close to moving to AVAST after years and years of subscribing, you have no idea.
Go on, tell me to reinstall it again "as we assure you it will work properly this time". I dare you!

thank you ,  ive done this, and i found i was haveing issues with the  "enable automattic profile switching " ,   it would block the secondary networks cards static connection to a cnc mill, verry frustrating , and i dont want to just turn the firewall off alltogeather,

i was able to regain access to the ftp site after rebuilding it, and setting it up in the firewall,

i really liked the block or straght up exclusion feture,   for that secondary connection,    i know of alot of oterh pos systems and simmilar with multipul netwok cards that im sure some of my old customers are dealing with now, as well as another makeshift ovsivotory i helped set up , im will have to contact them with this info , as they are running 4 nic cards and a seprate stack card for teliscope equipment,   *(though i told them RS232 would work fine, they were insistant on iot lol )

anyways , this feture, even if just a backend feture would be nice,   like to select what ethernet port your internet comes in on and just focous its attention to that,

i would love to see this with avg,

and im sure you cant answer,   but what is up wit hthe avast thing ? is there going to be a merger? or comprabal product offered ? whats the future look like for avg,   ive rather liked avg for a long time i like the team up , but whats the cost of it to the users ?

Hi,
I've had a hard time this morning trying to do something normally very simple, that is opening up some ports in the firewall. I've been reading through this thread trying to find the solution but I'm still not getting anywhere. I went to the Ehanced Firewall->Customize->Policies->Packet Rules where I expected I would be able to add a rule allowing port 5500 but it seems impossible to enter the port number. As soon as I enter the name for the rule the text boxes for Local port, remote port and ICMP type close up and do not allow anything to be entered. Before giving up completely I though of just putting in the IP address of the computer from which I want to make the connections thus allowing all connections from that computer regardless of the port number. I did succesfully enter the IP address, set action to allow, Protocol to All, direction in/out and profile All but the connection is still not getting through. If I turn off the firewall completely it works fine but obviously I cannot leave it turned off.
Seeing how complicated this seems to be is there a way to simply turn off the AVG firewall and revert to using the built in Windows firewall - that had always worked fine for me.

Christian,

Sorry for the inconvenience, not to worry, we are aware of it. Our developers had fixed the issue recently. I would request you to update AVG Internet Security, restart your device and follow the below steps.

Open AVG Internet Security -> Menu at the top right -> Settings -> Components -> Enhanced firewall -> Customize -> Policies -> Default Rules -> Choose "Allow".

Now, go to Policies -> System Rules -> make sure all the task has been enabled.

Again, Firewall -> Customize -> Network Profiles -> change all the profiles from public to Private.

If the issue persists, go to Menu -> Settings -> Troubleshooting -> uncheck 'Enable AVG Self Protection module' and check whether you could access that PC. Thank you!

I renewed my AVG Ultimate this week to find nothing but trouble awaiting. Why are you taking controll away from the user? The whole reason we use AVG was to have controll over the firewall. I do not want everything sending signals throught my network as backgorud info. I never agreed to allow my information to be shared behind my back but it seems that all companies are forcing people to share through the updates while the majority of the people don't even notice. I did not pay for a beta version of AVG that is what the free used to be. I was paying for a "re-newal" of the software that was working perfectly before the payment. It's like I bought a whole new software from a different company and I want my money back!

Just wanted to add... They are very quick to jump in and say that their techs are working on it and fixes are on the way.

Don't kid yourself!! This has been going on for at least a year now... If they intended to do anything, they would have ALREADY!!!

This seems to have occured as a result of the sale to Avast. Rather than adapt their product or incorporate the better elements of AVG's, they just decided to throw the good parts out the window... and push their piece of crap down all of our throats.

As soon as the interface changed (along with most of it's components), I contacted AVG tech support to try and figure out a way to get back to where I was. After repeatly telling me the new product was vastly superior (it ISN'T, that is laughable), he alluded to me that, yes, there was a way to reinstall the earlier version (the one we all liked)... but I would have to pay $116 USD to have them guide me through the process. I told him this was EXTORTION and there was no way under the sun I would %$@#ing pay it.

This is the kind of company AVG now is. They are more like malware than many of the things we are trying to protect ourselves against. What do you call it when someone takes your money, breaks your computer, then extorts you to fix it.

We all know the answer to that one...

Good luck AVG (and your users)... you are going to need it.

John PascoeJohn Pascoe

I too have the same problem. AVG has ruined what used to be a perfectly good product. I bought multiple licences and within a week they TOTALLY changed their Internet Security to the complete and utter joke it is now!!!

I removed it from every computer I have at home (4) and had our IT department at my business remove it from every computer there as well. I only re-installed it here at home to see if they had at least tried to fix all the things they had needlessly wrecked, with FTP access through the firewall being the most pressing.

They have done NOTHING!!

I suspect AVG is a security nightmare waiting to happen. Any company that doesn't listen to it's users, obviously doesn't care to address security issues is headed for a CLIFF!

They refuse to answer the question WHY they pushed this obviously INFERIOR design down everyones throat when there was NOTHING WRONG with the previous interface.

It looks like I will be removing AVG Internet Security (AGAIN!!) and installing a product from one of their competitors... likely ESET.

I would ask how many here are likely to do the same... but I am probably talking to myself.

File this under... "How to ruin a perfectly good company/farming your business out to third world incompetence"

We request you to submit your feedback through this link: http://www.avg.com/product-feedback .

Instead of skirting around the questions... Why don't you answer them?

Why did you change the interface when you had virtually no support from your users to do so? Why can't you fix the firewall to allow FTP use. NONE of your competitors have a problem with FTP? You didn't either in the last version of the interface? Why is your product so invasive. To do everyday things on the internet, I am forced to shut down the Web Shield and Firewall COMPLETELY (ie... TURN THEM OFF!!!). What good is that. If I don't, NOTHING will work. Java, script... NOTHING!! I am pretty computer savvy and I have gone through all the features (numerous times...) and it just CANNOT be optimised. The code you are using is CRAP!! Every version you have released since 2012 has gotten progressively worse... become more and more invasive. You seem to be very good at putting up popups to sell us your other product (which are also crap btw...), but not much else.

If this was an isolated problem, I, as well as everyone else here would likely cut you some slack. It isn't though, and you are doing NOTHING to fix the problems. When you changed the interface I knew within a couple of hours it would be unworkable. I gave you the benefit of the doubt, waited for changes, nothing happened and then... when I complained and asked for a refund, you said I waited too long (less than a week). This just goes to show what kind of a company AVG has become.

Let's face it... AVG is GONE!! Finito Benito... DUST!!! What we have now is Avast, dressed up in an AVG GUI with all of the bad things that implies.

Stop dancing around and just answer to the issues...

The more I use this product, the more i HATE it. What a badly written, clumsy pile of %$#@. Everytime a utility comes on... bang... 'AVG Software Anylyzer' is wanting out through the firewall to call home so it can compare it to the signature in the remote data base to see if it's legit or not... EVERY %$^#ing time... REALLY? Is that necessary? Of course not. Every two minutes I have 'AVG Emergency Update' calling out for no apparent reason. You know what AVG... I just turn it ALL OFF!! Everything. I block ALL of it with my REAL firewall...Made by Norton for those of you that are interested in products that actually DO WORK!!!  This thing isn't just a bit flaky, a bit clumsy, a bit questionable... It is a TOTAL PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!! In order for me to do anything, I am forced to disable virtually ALL of it. They haven't FIXED ANYTHING!! They haven't IMPROVED ANYTHING!!! All they have done is destroy a good company that made well written software and had good customer service. Now you get service from India or China from techs that can't speak English, that are obviously reading from scripts and have no clue how to troubleshoot ANYTHING. I asked a few detailed questions and the answers I received made me laugh out loud... then I felt bad because it's their fault they are unprepared. NO ONE would be...There are NO GOOD ANSWERS...It is THAT simple. AVG knows the product is NO GOOD... Is UN-SUPPORTABLE... and can't be fixed or improved... That is why they just give vague answers about ... 'improvements are coming'... No they AREN'T... You know it and sadly, so do WE!!! If you had any class, you'd admit you screwed up and just go back to the previous interface. We are all sick of your BS... Do the right thing for a change.

Yes, I am a PAID CUSTOMER, thank you... Have been for many, many years.

What I was referring to was your AVG SOFTWARE ANALYZER, presumably designed to check whether applications running on your system are legitimate or not (either dangerous by design or malicious). No matter what I turn on on my system, this invasive, malware-like app immediately pops up and wants to call out to AVG. I don't want AVG knowing what I am doing every second of the day, nor do I want a record of same sitting on a server in some third world shithole. I am perfectly capable of managing and monitoring my own systems and I certainly don't need your third-rate hacks doing it for me!

Next up... AVG EMERGENCY UPDATER... I have been carefully monitoring when this comes on (virtually the same as previous AVG Software Anlyzer), pretty much every time you try to do ANYTHING. I suspect that this is also reporting 'home' to AVG for nefarious purposes and has NOTHING to do with updates of ANY KIND!

Are you selling all this information? I am willing to bet you are. Have a look online... type in AVG and MALWARE. As a 'supposed internet security company' you'd think you'd get tons of hits reporting on how AVG prevented this, that or the other from harming peoples computers... You be WRONG!!

There are hundreds (and hundreds...) of reports of AVG software behaving like the malware it is supposed to be preventing. Don't believe me... Have a look for yourself.

Instead of making excuses, why don't you try and address the issues your users are bringing up. If you are actually in the internet security business and NOT a data mining farm for some Chinese criminal organization (and I certainly have my doubts) we would have seen some type of movement by now to correct these problems. WE HAVEN'T!!

I paid to renew multiple licences for the AVG product I was using and was relatively happy with. I DIDN'T pay for the horrible, invasive, dangerous, malicious POS I now have infesting my computers. I DIDN'T sign up to have a bodged together version of Avast (in AVG colors). This was done without my consent and the very least you could have done was address my concerns instead of trying to extort even more money to fix a problem YOU CREATED!!!

master, need that file too, this is worthless, will never buy avg again. used it forever but to take that ability away cost me money, i am on metered, very expensive bandwidth and their ask feature is the most annoying idea in the world. it pops up every second and stops u from whatever u are doing. the option to block something is the only common sense way to do it for people like me. Never again, screw me once, that is it.  waste of good money, don't buy this crap people, they screwed the pooch.

Master, need to revert back, can you help....[email address removed]

I recently had this problem when I started using Himachi again with AVG Ultimate and found that you need to add a "packet rules" named Himachi, Action - Allow, Protocol - All (probably could limit to TCP or UDP but decided not to try), Direction - In/Out, Address - blank. This is to be set on all computers accessing the Himachi network. This is under AVG Menu> Settings> Components> Enhanced Firewall > Policies.

Himachi dedicates a specific IP address to each client so you can enter each client in the Address column but they would require multiple entries and I found it was not necessary. All my network settings are set to "Private."

Hi C,

Do you mean that, the issue is resolved when you set the network profile to "Private"?
