checktrax threat being detected

I've seen others post about this here, but now I'm also seeing (with very recent dates e.g. today) Microsoft Security and Avast users reporting the same issue. See: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-security/what-is-httpw3pchecktraxcomw3pjs/5491c452-f86c-4528-964f-cbdd59f37e31

There appears to be a threat AVG and other antimalware services are detecting related to something called "

http//w3p.checktrax.com/w3p.js " (without the quotes.)

It appears to be detected by AVG and others in Chrome.exe

Scanning Chrome, the Google folder, etc. reveals nothing. It is detected repeatedly by AVG and others, and despite ostensibly being quarantined and/or deleted, continues to be detected periodically (a few times a week in my case.) This seems to occur irrespective of what sites I visit, so long as I am using Chrome. Full system scan turns up nothing either, with multiple antivirus programs.

Hello Anonymous,

I am sorry to hear that. Please send us the screenshot(http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot) of the AVG threat pop-up you received, so I can check the same and assist you further.

This is NOT just in Chrome. See my screenshot showing the same message while using IE. THIS IS RIDICULOUS and has only been present the past couple of weeks. I, too, have "repaired" my AVG installation and the message keeps popping up repeatedly - multiple times a day. We need a resolution, not continued requests for screenshots!Present in IE, too

Hello Kim,

We request you not to post multiple times for the same issue, you won't obtain an answer to your query faster.
Please refer your other posting via https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000DqvF .
Thank you.

Kim, Also in future please try to keep the whole conversation in one question/thread to speed up any resolution.

As I said in my intitial post, I don't have a screenshot as it happened too fast and didn't realize I would need one. I'll try to grab one the next time it happens.

What can I do in the mean time to troubleshoot this issue? Like Kim above, I've already "repaired" AVG and taken the steps suggested in other topics. Who do I contact about this for more assistance?

Hello Anonymous,

I am sorry to hear that you keep getting this threat pop-up from AVG. This is caused due to an update issue and will get resolved in next AVG update. I suggest you to change the range of pop-up to zero from this location and check if that stops this detection pop-up.

Open AVG AntiVirus free\AVG Internet Security->Menu->Swettings->General->Pop-ups
Change the range to zero in "Alert Pop-ups". And check if that stop this detection message from your computer.

I've been having the same issue regarding this threat on Firefox via Windows 7. Is it a false positive?

@Karthikeyan If I understand correctly, you're asking me to simply disable the AVG Alert displays? How will that resolve the issue? Also, won't I want to see other alerts when they happen? Seems like sweeping the issue under the rug, no? Does setting the display in seconds to 0 have some other functionality of which I'm unaware besides simply hiding alerts from me?

Hello Anonymous,
I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. Karthikeyan has provided instruction to manage AVG promotional pop ups, if there will be any threat on your computer, then AVG will give you alert pop up even though it's 0 seconds. Regrading the AVG detection of Chrome.exe, it might be because corrupted Chrome files. So I request you to reinstall chrome once (please uninstall it from control panel > program and feature and download install it again "https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html") and check if it's working fine with enabled AVG. If the issue still persist, then please contact us again.
Best regards,
Alok.

For some reason my responses have not been showing up.

I'll try again.

I repaired AVG, and reinstalled Chrome. The problem persists. Here is a screenshot.

I reinstalled Chrome, and repaired AVG. The problem still persists. Finally managed to get a screenshot of it. I'm not sure what this can possibly do to help though, since it's the same screenshot everyone else has been posting.
