Hi,

i have de same problem, I found out that AVG Web security is the cause for that problem.
if you turn it off,  battle net starts.
Exception list does not help or a new installation (AVG). Pls fix that XD

I use AVG Free.
Graham HaleGraham Hale
You are correct turning off web security did allow battlenet to start, but still it blocked to connection the only thing that should do that is a fire wall but this stays on when disabling avg so the firewall is not to blame.
I have spoke with blizzard and it is ever since AVG's last update i had a online with tecnical suppoet in AVG and he tried everything that he was aloud to do and nothing fixed the issue other then turning this off so what is AVG doing that we the user are not in control of that is blocking a program
Blackknight DoodBlackknight Dood
I can at least play hearthstone with this "fix" turning off web security:)
I hope this is a temporary problem and will be fixed in the next Update.

Hi Rajarajan,

I have exactly the same issue with AVG AntiVirus Free (Version 16.61.7538) on Windows 8.1, 64 bit.
Since the last update I'm unable to launch Battle.net and any of Blizzards games. I also added Battle.net to the exceptions list, without success. I would appreciate any help to solve this problem, because I don't want to uninstall AVG :P

Thanks  in advance

I tried add every launcher and game (every application folder) into the expectation.. but still not working!!!

Same problem here. Battlenet will only connect if I disable AVG. I've tried adding exceptions for the files and folders but with no result. I just upgraded to Windows 10 so put in a clean install for AVG.

To AVG
1. the tec guy said he was a senior tec but did the same as the first
2. why didn't he look at the notes and tests the so call second tier did
3. he now says its gon to the developers so clearly there is a issues
4. Blizard id one of the three biggest software companise out there and have the biggest following so blocking them is a BIG MISTAKE
5. the exemtions do not work
6. why do the tecs do the same i do not belive i was with a senor tec if so he would of seen all the test done and actual do somthing about the issue

to recap
Blizzard is a Massive company that you AVG are blocking with out users permistion

Greetings,

I have ran into a similar problem. The battle.net launcher starts with AVG online, however, the program is very much dead - only the taskbar icon is functional, and allows only to use "Exit". Reinstall of battle.net launcher, running as administrator or putting the battle.net directory among exceptions did not resolve the issue. Only temporarily stopping AVG protection did. Allowing AVG protection once Battle.net launcher starts however doesn't seem to interrupt its function - at least I haven't observed such behavior yet.

The described behavior started occuring only after I updated from AVG Free to AVG Ultimate today (Czech version); I am using Windows 10 64-bit, updated from Windows 8.1 Pro. I haven't observed any similar problem with any other application yet.

I am also having the same issue.  Battlenet launcher only works properly when link scanner is disabled.  When the scanner is on the launcher will sit in my tray for about 5 min then it will finally load but it cant connect to the battlenet servers.

AVG the aditional support is tecnical login on to your pc and being able to do nothing and this effects windows 10 users so windows 7 users that turn off the Link scanner to get it to work need not coment
that is a separet issue for windows 7 users
turning off link scanner and websafe lets battle net open but not connect
this is a issues with the developers and they need to sort this
Balasubramanian SBalasubramanian S (Avast)

I'm having the same issue, could I please get the email for additional support?
KishoreKishore (Avast)
Hello Brian,
Could you please confirm whether you have added the files to the exception list using the instructions on the article : http://avgclick.me/AddException ? If not please try to add the application and check whether it resolves the issue.
Thank you.

So what i get from this thread is "hey let us probe your pc and take alot of your time just to say there's no fix." I had a the same problem with Origin afue month's ago, They probed my pc for hours then said it couldnt be fixed. Now I have the same problem Battle net will open but AVG wont allow any game's from B.net to run. I will not let unprofessional people with broken english to work on my pc again. That being said I do think AVG is a good program, However AVG does have bugs to work out. I will be turning off AVG to start b.net games, Then I will turn it back on once in game.
