AVG blocking Battle.net launcher

For some reason, on one of the systems I have AVG installed on, whenever I try to launch Battle.net to play World of Warcraft, it will just sit inmemory and not fully launch. On the other system that I have WoW and AVG on, I don't have this issue. If I disable AVG, it starts right up and I can play. I created exceptions for all of the pertinent files, so is there anything I can do to resolve this without having to disable AVG all of the time?

I'm not sure how to express my anger with this Anti virus software. if you check your records I have been with you all for sometime. As of late your credability in my book has been decreacing. You need to fix the issues with Battle.net not working with your software or I will be force to find an alternitve anti virus program.

Please add me to your email list for info on this clearly outstanding problem

AVG keeps identifying wow.exe as a virus.  I know I can set up an exception, but this is clearly a bug in your detection.  Can you fix this?  I am running AVG Internet Security 16.151.8013.

Thank you.

This is happening again with the latest update to the free version, 18.2.3046. I uninstalled it and everything was running as it should. Reinstalled it and it was back to AVG blocking WoW. Added all the exceptions and it worked fine until I shut down and started up my computer later. Now it's like it's not reading the exceptions anymore at all. Every thing was running fine until this last update. What else can I do to get it working? Trying to open a trusted program I want to on my computer and being completely unable to because this program won't allow it is kind of ridiculous.

Hi April,

I am sorry to hear that. Please disable each component in AVG one at a time and check which one is blocking the Game file.

If you get any error message, please provide the screenshot (http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot)of it to assist further.

Went back in last night and literally added every exe file between the WoW and Battle.net folders as well as the folders themselves. Game opened, no problem. Restarted computer and the same thing... Game won't open, avg is ignoring the exceptions put in. Tried turning off the components one by one and it still wouldn't open. Even with all of them turned off and avg completely disabled. I am not getting any error messages to screenshot. This is super frustrating.

Thank you! I have literally tried everything and then some and nothing has worked. Until then or until there is some kind of update to fix whatever is causing it, I have uninstalled it from my computer and installed another AV. Hopefully there's a solution soon!

The following is a mildly annoying workaround, but it worked for me on two computers and it seems to stick.  First, add the whole world of warcraft folder to the AVG exceptions list.  Don’t launch WoW yet.   Second, go into the troubleshooting tab in the AVG options and turn on Passive Mode.  You’ll get lots of warnings.  Third, reboot.  Fourth, launch WoW.  It should work, but you’re running without protection.  Fifth, alt-tab out, open AVG and follow its prompts to fix the lack of protection.  Sixth, close all programs and reboot again.  Check AVG to make sure it shows protection is back on.  At this point WoW launches normally for me via the Blizzard app.  For me this fix has persisted through subsequent reboots and shutdowns.  Best of luck.

Thank you for waiting, April.

We need to collect the log files to analyze the exact issue. Provide us your email domain to draft you the email steps required for escalation.

Hey AVG Support Staff.  Here is an idea - Try opening and playing World of Warcraft and DEBUG IT YOURSELVES.  We, the customers, have paid for a service that is FAULTY.  YOU, the provider and recipients of our cash should FIX the issue without all the canned responses.  Obviousely, there is a problem but telling us to "uninstall and reinstall" and then to "try that again" or "seek help in the avg community" is ludicrous.

FIX IT.

Please let me know the version of AVG installed on your computer and are you able to access this application with AVG Protection disabled?

Thank you for the information.

Please add this application to AVG "Do not Disturb" mode and check if that fix the issue.

To add this, open AVG AntiVirus free, click on "Menu->Do not Disturb mode".

Check this link https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Do-Not-Disturb-Mode-Getting-Started for more information on how to use this  feature on your computer.

Nope, that didn't work
Balasubramanian SBalasubramanian S (Avast)
Andrew, could you specify for which application you are experiencing the issue?
Is it working when AVG Antivirus free is disabled?
Andrew FaucetAndrew Faucet
It is battle.net launcher and it works only when AVG is uninstalled
Balasubramanian SBalasubramanian S (Avast)
Thank you for the information.
Did you add battle.net to AVG's exclusion as mentioned in this article and check the status?
Andrew FaucetAndrew Faucet
yes I did

Thank you for the confirmation, Andrew.
We request you to create your own post, so we can send email instruction on how to proceed further on this matter.
